ANTONETTE T(H)OVSEN emigrated from Tonsberg to New york on 6.may.1891.
She lived for many years in Long Island NY, - and created a name for herself as a writer of novels and short stories, and was published in "The Decorah Post" among others. She died in Long Island 19.nov.1942, - and I would love to hear if anybody know anything about her, - her family? - her work etc? Can anyone help?

Hi,
I have never heard of her myself, but here is a link I found on Google, listing bibliography of norwegian-american literature. Antonette Tovsen is mentioned with the list below.

In addition, "Ruth Fjeldsaa" published "Antonette Tovsen död." (="Antonette Tovsen dead") in The Decorah Post on 11-Feb-1943.

This looks to be the work of A.T.:
Tovsen, Antonette. 1920. "Blaaveis." DP 30 Nov.-7 Dec. (SF)

- . 1923. "Herdis." DP 6 March-24 April. (SF)
- . 1923. "For tidlig ude." DP 18 Dec. (S)
- . 1925. "Naar strengene brister." DP 24 March-12 May. (SF)
- . 1929-30 "Rebecca." DP 5 Nov. 1929-21 Jan. 1930. (SF)
- . 1930. "Anstalten." DP 11 March-6 May. (SF)
- . 1934-5. "Markens trælle." DP 2 Oct. 1934-1 Jan. 1935. (SF)
- . 1935. "Det siste forsök." JiV. (S)
- . 1936. "Toner." DP 10 March-2 June. (SF)
- . 1936. "Hvite seil." JiV. (S)
- . 1937. "Spökelset." JiV. (S)
- . 1938. "Hvite seil." JiV. (S)
- . 1941. "Da kronprinsparret kom." JiV. (S)
- . 1943. "Dybe hjulspor." DP 21 Jan.-15 April. (SF)

Hi, I believe you are inquiring of my mother's grandmother. How do you know her? I have been trying to piece together a family history. I would appreciate anything you can tell me.

More information would be helpful, her date of birth, a link to the emigration record, was she married, etc.

The 1910 US census shows an unmarried Antonette C. Tovsen living in the household of her brother-in-law, Andreas Stromsoe (wife's name Emilie), in Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York. She is listed as being 30+ years old (cannot clearly read this entry - might be 34?) and she is listed with the occupation of saleswoman in a drug store (her brother-in-law is a pharmacist in a drug store). Source: National Archives Microfilm Series: T624 Roll: 961 Page: 96.

If there was an obituary published in the Decorah Posten - perhaps that would be included in the Rowberg Files?
