Hi Collette Have you tried searching the 1901 Census for England? Other sources are birth, death and marriage records. Halverson is very common in Norway so would be hard to find with out a first name and approximate age. Did you search The Seaman's Roll's at the Digitalarkivet. Hopefully you will find some more information to search on. Carla |

Hi Collette, I agree with Carla, you'll have to start in England, the info you have so far is not enough to proceed in Norway... You should try to locate the wedding certificate...!
Searching the 1901-census, I found these males (25y-55y):
- Name, Age, Where Born, Administrative County, Civil Parish, Occupation
- Hans Halvorsen 25 Norway London Slatte
- Soren Halvorson 26 Risor Norway Northumberland 2d Engineer
- Charlie Alverson 28 Norway Monmouth Newport Sailor
- Holvol Halvorsen 29 Norway Lancashire Liverpool Able Seaman
- Christofer Halvorsen 33 Norway Durham Mate
- Nils Halvorsen 35 Frederickstad Norway Herm & Sethou Cook
- Martin Halvorsen 39 Norway Northumberland Preston Master Mariner
- Albert Halvorsen 44 Fredrikstad Norway Lancashire Master Seas
- Charles Alverson 45 Norway Glamorganshire St Mary Boarding House Keeper
- Harold Halvorson 47 Norway Northumberland Preston Ship Labourer
- Hans Halvorsen 52 Norway Newcastle Upon Tyne Byker Marine Engineer
- Osten Halvorsen 54 Norway Stavenger Glamorganshire Roath Canvaser Shipwright
Does anyone look familiar?

Hi Collette, you'll find additional info about Holvol Halvorsen if you access the 1901 UK census page.
Searching the index is free, but viewing transcribed data costs 50p for an individual and then 50p for a list of all other people in that person's household. Viewing a digital image of the census page costs 75p. Note: There is a minimum charge of 5.00 UK Pounds Sterling, even if you view only 1 househould.
I would recommend you to view the image, it should give you info about address, wife, children etc...
Maybe it tells you his place of birth as well. Then you can proceed in the Norwegian censuses, which are online and free of charge.. Jan |

Hi Collette,
This probably doen't help you, but I am searching for my ggradfather who was supposed to be a Norwegian sea captain. He was lost at sea and his widow emigrated to the U.S. in 1886.
His name was Alveberg. Not sure of first name; maybe Magnus or Martin. |

Dear Collette, My GG grandfather was a Norwegian sailor by the name of Olaf Martin Halvorsen. I understand he was born, possibly in 1857, in Horten, south of Oslo. He married my GG grandmother, Emma Mary Parry, in the Liverpool area, possibly Garston, in the early 1880s.
They had at least 5 children. The eldest, I think, was born around 1884. At least 2 of their daughters, including my G grandmother, Florence Elizabeth, moved to Australia. This side of the family has lived here ever since.
I understand that there are records in the St Michael's church at Garston.
I hope this is useful.
