It's been a good week. As of 2 days ago, my father talked with his half sister for the very first time. My father is 80 and his half sister is 79. I got home on the 31st to find an email that my 2nd cousin Unni, who I just made contact with last week had talked with the family of my late grandfather, Kristian Johannessen. I can tell you when I read the email that we had found the right Johannessen related family there in Haugesund I sat here and cried many happy tears! This has been on my mind since I was a boy. Who is my grandfather? Does he family in Norway? Would they want to know about us? I can tell you that they were all very happy and pleased to know that they had family here in America. They thought maybe he had another son before meeting their mother, but they never had a name or anything to go by so they didn't know where to begin searching. We at least had the name of my grandfather, more than they had about us. So they were very happy when the church/kirke contacted their family letting them know that someone was looking to speak with the family of Kristian Johannessen.

This has been one of the most happy and fulfilling weeks of my life not only because I found my relatives in Norway, but I united my 80 yr. old father with his 79 yr. old half sister. I can't tell you how mentally draining it has been. One day feeling we were very close, then to take a step back thinking maybe we have the wrong family to realizing we do have the right family!

Thanks so much for all your help and information that you have provided as well. It helps put the pieces of my family and our ancestors together. I am going to go back as far as I can because I think it tells a little story about who I am and where my people are from. I have always been very interested in history and geography and this week has been a shining example of why those have been a topic of interest for me.

Tusen takk once igjen and I hope to see Norway in 2012 on the TV SHOW, ALT FOR NORGE!!!!

If I get on the show that will be AWESOME!!! If not, it has still been a WIN for me and my Dad this week and I hope to get to Norway as soon as can be in either 2012 or 2013 at the latest! We will have to go to Tonsberg where my father was born and to the Haugesund area to meet Kristians family.

Ha en god natt and God Bless Norge! :)

Nils,

Through Google, I found this post. I am researching a younger sister of Kristian (Lucie, born 10 Apr 11) on behalf of her son. She died young and her son is now looking for lost cousins (such as your father). If you would like to get in touch and possibly share information about both ancestors and descendants any which way, please send me an email: slekt at prolego dot net. Hope to hear from you!

Rune :-)
