A number of Norwegians who emigrated to Norsewood, New Zealand, under the assisted immigration programs left New Zealand for America.

I am trying to find out the names of those involved, and would be grateful for any leads.

Hi Pip
I have been trying to trace Swedish born Anders Ericsson Fager and his wife Karin Pehrsdotter who were on Hovding 1872 and drew a lot where the Dannevirke Railway Station is today. Anecdotaly and p. 65 "Dannevirke the Early Years" Anders was lost in the bush. Perhaps! But what ever became of his wife Karin? Several accounts of Scandinavian emigration reckon 20% returned to their homeland. In P.64 MacDonald writes..."A number of settlers converted to Mormonism and went to Salt lake City".
I am making enquiries in Sweden hopefully to discover whether the Fagers returned or joined family in the U.S.
Does this give you a clue to what happened to your Norwegians? Please keep in touch. barry.erickson@xtra.co.nz
