Can you see the actual record that says Thor S Stueland? Sometimes handwritten capital Ls and Ss get confused.

Thanks but those cards are not the original, they are the indexing copy so the same thing could apply. Whoever typed them might also have seen and been confused by a handwritten capital S for L.....

I know it is very confusing with all the Thore's, Samson's and Lars's in this family. I am only looking for info on Lars T. and Britte Stuland (Thoreson). Hopefully some clarification can be made by information in the obituary of Lars Thoreson Malmanger who was born 15 Aug 1857 on the Tjentland farm in the Ardal Parish, Hjelmeland District, Rogaland, Norway. He was the son of Thore Larrsson Stuland (1825-1907) and Britta Kittelsdatter Hjelmeland (1833-1896), both born in Kvinnherad Parish of Hordaland. Thore and Britta married in 1854 and that same year left for the Tjentland farm in Rogaland with Thore's parents and his four older siblings (who would have been Lars Thorson (1801- ? ) and Britte Jonsdotter Myklebust
(1800 - ?). Now I understand that to mean Lars and Britte's children - the names I have are Jon (b. April 15, 1827), Trine or Thorine (b. 1834), Gjert (b. 1836), and Anna (b. April 5, 1839). I do not know where their youngest son, Lars Larsson was born. In my info it says he was born in Stuland, Kvinnherad, Hordaland, Norway but I am wondering if that is correct. Could Lars T. and Britte have remained on the Tjentland farm in Rogaland for a longer time? I do know that they were living on Østereide, Ølen, Hordaland, Norway in 1871 when they immigrated to America. I feel certain that they settled in Illinois as Lars and Britte's granddaughter was married in Grundy Co., Illinois in 1892 to another Lars Larson!

Lars Toresen and Brita Jonsdatter were living at Østereide already in 1865, together with son Lars and daughter Torine, plus her husband. Hopkins linked to their entry in the 1865 census in his post on 18/05/2021 : 16:55:44.

I am still working on the Malmanger family history. I am writing about Johan (John) T. Malmanger, b. March 22, 1871 in Kvinnherad, Hordaland, Norway, and died December 27, 1960 in Iowa City, Iowa, USA. I found (on a family tree in Ancestry) that he immigrated in 1881 but cannot verify that. He would have been only 10 years old. Can anyone find a record of his immigration? He had a brother, Samson, who also immigrated in 1881 at 16 years of age and I am wondering if they came together. I had found Samson living in Clinton Co., Iowa following his arrival in America. I am still unable to find death records of Lars T. Thoresen (Stuland) and his wife Brita or of their son Lars Larsen! Again, thank you for any help you can give to me!

Thank you for the information! I questioned if they came together. It would be difficult as a parent to send your 10 and 16 year old sons on a voyage to America! The only family that I know of that came to the USA before Samson and John were his grandparents, Lars T Stuland and his wife and their son Lars Larsen and family who would have been John and Samson's cousins. Again, thank you so much!

I am reading this thread with a great deal of interest. I grew up in north central Iowa. There were Stueland, Thorson, and Dahl families. My maiden name is Omvig.

Please keep writing. I will keep reading!

M J Bell - I always saw the most Omvigs in Hancock Co. IA, Amsterdam township just north of Wright Co.
Kanawha area? Of course, travel was easy on those small county roads and there were many Norwegian emigrants who settled there. It has been years since I last walked the small Lutheran cemeteries in that area.

If you are interested in tracking the north central Omvigs back to their Norway roots - share info. Starting a new thread here would be the best to do.

Could someone find when Erik Thorsen Malmanger, born May 1, 1879 at Malmanger, Kvinnherad, Hordaland, Norway, immigrated to the United States? This would be my husband's grandfather. I would like the name of the ship, departure date and arrival date in the United States. Many thanks!
