Hi Carla!

Son of the "pioneer lady" Siri Anna, Ole A. Olson, was settled in Northland township, Ransom county ND with his wife and children in 1910 and 1920. The gif photos of census lists of 1930, however, seems to show that the family was not in Northland any more. Have any clue as to where to trace them?

Hi Einar, The site I use doesn't have the 1930 census indexed but maybe someone else can find them. Here is the link to Ole A. Olson in the 1920 census for Ransom county North Dakota Click Here
He is shown in the 1900 census as being born in Aug 1882 in North Dakota.
Hopefully someone with access to Ancestry.com can find him

Ole and Mary and 6 children are in Grand Forks City, Grand Forks County, North Dakota in 1930. At the bottom of the page.

Hi Dalb,

Very, very interesting. But the link just says it's not able to authenticate me...
Could it be that Ancestry.com have more demands to open the link?

Hi Carla and Dalb!

My computer has been out of function since Friday, so I couldn't thank you!
Thanks to both. I subscribed early Fridy to a fortnight's test subscription on Ancestry.com and found the same as on the link you sent, Dalb. Also, I have tried to trace descendants from Siri Anna and Severt (the Lindstad family, after Lettie and Paul A. Lindstad) but so far without luck.

By the way: Is it possible to search more recent censuses than 1930 - to trace the folks further?

The Federal 1930 census is the latest available - the 1940 census will be released in 2012. When seventy two years was set as the time frame for release this was the average life expectancy in the U.S.

There were various early state census' but I don't think there were any done by 1930.

Fine, Dalb! But there is always another mystery to be solved, as Carla use to put it!!
I tried the international telephone info in Norway who could regrettably tell me there is NO Tingstad in the
entire North Dakota registry (an information I tend to doubt). But the mystery is still there: WHERE did they go (a LARGE family!) There are about 15 Tingstads in Michigan and 5-6 families in the telephone book in entire Minnesota. None in Wisconsin and none in South Dakota.

Check the LDS site - www.familysearch.org - search tab - social security death register enter - Tingstad

In particular - #22. Joseph Tingstad - birth year is about right for one of their sons - card issued in North Dakota - he died in Washington State. Many families moved further west and Washington has a lot of Norwegian families living there.

You could place a query regarding this family to the Adams Co ND site on www.rootsweb.com/" target="_blank">http://www.rootsweb.com/

Ancestry - under births, deaths and marriages - enter - Tingstad - United States

Washington Death Index - 1940 - 1996 -
Joseph E Tingstad 13 Nov 1983 Tacoma Tacoma 82 years M 502-01-8190 029314

Melvin C Tingstad 03 Feb 1996 Tacoma Tacoma 85 years M 535-07-2789 004137

South Dakota marriages - these are names of some of their children - could be a match
Lillian Tingstad
Age: 29
Gender: Female
Spouse: Oscar Jabshson
Marriage Date: 10 Feb 1934
Marriage County: Brown
Post Office: Aberdeen

Roy Tingstad
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Spouse: Pearl Adamec
Marriage Date: 29 Oct 1933
Marriage County: Perkins
County of Residence: Perkins
Post Office: Haynes

Hi Dalb!

We're closing in! The Washington track seems to be the most fruitful and I am pursuing it now.
I am very, very grateful to you!

Hi Einar This Obituary looks like it is for the wife of Joseph the oldest son.
Dorothy Marie Tingstad Dorothy Tingstad, born March 2, 1909 in Wheatland, Wyoming, passed away November 14 in Tacoma. She had been a Fern Hill resident for 57 years. An avid sports fan, she became a Bethel high Booster when three of her grandsons played there. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years. Joseph Tingstad, in 1983. The Tingstads leave behind daughters Arlene McArthur (husband Doug) and Colleen Forsland (husband Donald) and sons Ed Tingstad (wife Darlene) and Ronald Tingstad

Tacoma is in Washington state

This site Click Here has obituaries for more of the Tingstad's. type tingstad in the search query. If you click on untitled on the page that comes up, it will display the whole obituary

Hi Carla!

Finally I am in touch with one of my third cousins over there by mail. It's fantastic!
And you are still helping. I want to thank you!
Carla, your own Norwegian roots, where in this old, long country was that?
