Yes, I thought it was strange that the record said Maren but the photo was Kristian. I wonder what relation would Kristian be to Maren?

Forsørges paa Onsø pleiehjem translates as Dependent at Onsøy nursing home.

Good finding.

Maren Mathis ? (married/unmarried ?) taken care of by Onsøy nursing home.

So it seems we can rule out Gaustad, then?

Might be too early to do that. It is possible that she was at one time commited and recovered well enough to be transferred to a nursing home. Also I referred to the Norwegian Census as 1900, however as you probably realized when you looked at it, that it was 1910. So where was she in 1900?

This seemed to be a bit of a stretch when I first looked at it, but the more information I find the more likely it may be.

Maybe in 1900 she was living with her brother and his family. Here is a Maren Andreassen born in 1853 living with Andreas Andreasen and his family. She is listed as his sister.

http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/tidslinje.aspx?idi=368519

In the other site.

http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/en-gb/ft/person/pf01037012003766

In the 1910 Census she is no longer with the family. In this census the birth date of Andreas Andreas is given and the name of his wife is also given. Look down the page for this information.

Here is the marriage of Andreas and Karoline Sofia. See number 4, Note that his father is listed as Adreas Johanessen same as the name of the father of Maren

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=365&idx_id=365&uid=ny&idx_side=-224

Here is the baptism record for Andreas Andreasen and his father is Andreas Johannessen and his mother is Catherine Knudsdatter, same parents as Maren. Also he is listed as Matros ie sailor or deckhand the same profession as Ludvig the husband of Maren.

See number 19

I am very curious to find out what was actually wrong with Maren. Was it really postpartum depression? Thank you all for continuing to turn up new information.

Great finds everyone! Perhaps by writing to the nursing home it would be possible to obtain records??
Here's a photo of Onsøy nursing home 1960. I wonder if it's the same place where Maren stayed.

Good finding Anton, the 1900 census for Glemmen.
Place of living; Frydenberg.

it looks like Maren was taken care of by her brother Andreas since her occ. is "Husfaderens søster" Housefathers sister.

That's an awful lot of people for one household, isn't it? Was it a large farm?

Is there a way to pull a similar census for Gaustad, for other years? I attempted it but all I seemed to be doing was clicking around blindly, even with Google Translate. We need something between 1882-1890, I think.

Frydenberg was not a farm, it was a large house under farm nr 10.
If Anderas Andreassen owned or leased the house I do not know.
There were 3 families or more living there.
Andreas was a carpenter at Fredrikstad Mecanical Workshop (building ships) established 1870.

Look above the Houshold members;
Notes (for Maren Andreassen) X) Manden 18 år i Amerika "Her husband 18 years in America.

That correspond well With the 1883 emigration
