Torger Sjurson Hove, (b.1823) and his wife, Anne Knudsdaughter, (b.1834) emigrated from Norway to Minnesota in 1858. They had one son, Knud, b. 1855 in Norway. I do not know if Knud emigrated togehter with his parents. Torger and Anne got one more son, Gulbrand, b. 12.03.1866 in Freeborn, MN.

Now I ask for help to find if Torger and Anne got more childern in USA ?
And did Knud emigrate to USA togehter with his parents ?

Hello!
Torger was born in Lyngdal, Flesberg, Buskerud and Anne was born in Sigdal, Buskerud. Their son Knud was born in Lyngdal, Flesberg, Buskerud.

Hopkins.:
Thank you for your help.
I think this is right people. I have information about Gulbran, but he was born 12.03.1866. May be your Gulbran died between 1860 and 1865 so Torger and Anne called their "new" son also Gulbran.

Could you find anything what happened to Knud? and
Did Torger and Knud get more children ?
What about Census 1870 - 1880 - 1890 ?

It is the granddaughter of Gulbrand who want to know if she have close relatives on her grandfathers side.

Bj鷨n, I also thought of those additional questions and censuses that you've suggested. I was unable to find the family mentioned again.
Gulbrand, b. 1866 in US, went back to Norway? When? What surname did he use in Norway?

There was a book 'Nordm熡dene i Amerika' by Martin Ulvestad, 1907. Sections were translated into English by Olaf Kringhaug and I don't see mention of the Sjursons.

One alternative spelling for that name in America might be Shurson or Shursen.

No 1890 census, I also could not find anything in 1870 or 1880.

On Familysearch.org there is a Torger S. Hove, born September 22, 1822, Norway, died November 26, 1894 with -
Anne Knudson, married January 24, 1854. No other info listed.
Could not make the link work.

Thank you all for the answers.

Most of it was known of me, but it is good to get it verified.

No, Gulbrand (b.1866) did not return to Norway. He married a lady in my family, Severine Christiansen, and got 10 children. Between 1900 and 1902 they moved to Virginia and there lives also the granddaughter of Gulbrand who is the person who want to know if she have relatives on her grandfathers side.

I have my information of the family until 1855 from a historybook of Flesberg in Buskerud. I also got newer information from Pat Burnette, that is the name of the granddaughter of Gulbrand.

It is right that they could have taken another lastname. It could also be Hove, that was the name that Gulbrand took.

In the histotybook of Flesberg it is told taht Torger was born in 1823, therefore I think that the information on Family search is a little bit wrong.

Alot of the information on Rootsweb and Family Search is incorrect, it is posted by people who just copy from other people without verifying anything. Don't know if the following will help but here goes:

1900 census, Rockwell, Norman, MN
G.T. Hove, born March 1866 Norway, married 3 years,farmer
Severine, born Norway January 1873, immigrated 1881, 2 children, 2 living
Alfred T., born Minnesota July 1897
Clara, born Minnesota December 1898

1910 census, Ware Creek, New Kent, Virginia
Gilbert T. Hove, 45, born Norway, married 13 years, farmer
Ser-----, 37, born Norway, 7 children, 6 living
Alfred, 12, Clara 11, Gina, 9, Hild, 6 born Minnesota
Sylvia, 4 and Melvin 2 born Virginia.
So they moved to Virginia between 1904 & 1906

World War I draft registration dated August 24, 1918
Alfred T. Hove, born July 30, 1897, telephone company, New Kent County, VA
Nearest relative - Gilbert T. Hove.
Social security death index-Alfred T. Hove, born July 30, 1897, died November 1993 in Henrico, Richmond, VA

1920 census, Norfolk, Norfolk, VA
Gene and Clara are boarders in a home, both working as turners in a knitting mill
Alfred is a boarder in another home working for the telephone company

1920 census, Ware Creek, New Kent, VA
K.T. Hove, 64, born Norway, farmer, marital status cannot read
Beretha, 45, sister, single, born Minnesota

No sign of Gilbert or Severine, it looks like Gilbert died between 1918 and 1920 and Knud took over the Ware Creek farm (just my speculation).

Thank you, Jo Anne, for the new information. You have done a wonderful work for me.

Most of the information was new for me and I appreciate it so much. It is nice to get so much knowledge about Pat Burnettes family and I am sure that Pat will be very pleased to get this information.
