Hi,
The city of Stavanger is located in Rogaland county.

Stavanger is a city and a municipality in Rogaland, Strand is a municipality in the same county.

From the christening record, it looks like he could have been christened at the Kvam farm in Strand parish (municipality), Rogaland.

Jan - You will find many maps of Norway online and in any good world atlas - check your local public library.
You can start to study about Norway's geography, history and learn about tracing Norwegian family history - did you check the LINKS about those subjects as listed on this website?

I often wonder if all of you professional , family researchers realise, how wonderful , you really are, and that is from the bottom of my heart. I have been trying to track My GGrandad Svend For , It seems like forever, Passenger ships, America , Uk , Every possible corner that I could think of. I,ve had many sleepless nights as Im sure you know , ! hour turns into 6 before you know it. On this journey I really felt as if I got to know my GGrandadj Svend even though I kept hitting that brick wall. I cannot explain, How emotional I felt when I opened your Email, Im not easily floored, but there in front of me was Svend and this whole new family and a twin!!!! I just do not know where to start, but before, I just want to say " Thank you So So much, you,re very special, Love alway,s Jan Johnson xxxx

Just my two cents. Many times people would say they were from the place they left from, the major port not the actual small village or area they were born and raised in. People would also move to the major port city and work for awhile to get money to pay for their passage, this happened alot in Ireland and that is why so many Irish family histories say their ancestors were from Cork which truth be told the great majority of Irish immigrants were from rural areas.

The Strand parish records online do not start until 1904. The church records have, however, been microfilmed and can be rented at a local Family History Center, click on Film Notes:

It would give more information then what is posted on LDS, names of godparents, information on parents.
