i am looking for my greatgrandfarther.he is listed on my grand parents' marriage certificate as sorn beirr gardner,deceased. the marriage was in sunderland,england in 1898. he was a tailor and family lore said he came from norway. i have checked uk censuses and bmd to no avail. where can i find imigration between sunderland and norway. any help gratefully received.

It might help if you gave us all the info you have on your grandfather, name, age etc. Sorn Beirr Gardner would not be the spelling of his father's name in Norway. The first name may be Sørn or Søren. Maybe Beirr could be Beier? A scan of the names in the original certificate could also be useful.

i have given all the information that i know because this is from Sorn's son marriage certificate. What would be the Norwegian equivalent of Gardener? Thanks for your help

I suppose the name of the groom is also found on the certificate? Gardener is "gartner" in Norwegian.

Hi The Digitalarkivet has census, emigration and lots of other records for Norway Click Here. You really should read the article on Norwegian names on this site Click Here Like Ninakarls said the names in Norway will not be the same as the "English interpretaion"
