Meløy is located in Nordland county, 120 km south of Bodø. The municipality's administrative center is located in Ørnes.

Thank you Jan Peter! Nice map too! What would Meløy have been in the 1801 census? I can't seem to find anything with that name or like it.

Hi,
you'll find Meløy in the census for Rødøe in 1801. Rødø (1865), Rødøy (1875) and Melø (1900).
Rødøy and Meløy was divided into two municipalities in 1884.

Easy, isn't it?

What is a "Dagarbeider"?

Never mind....I actually looked in the links section and found out the meaning! Day Laborer-doesn't have a job-just works at what he can get day to day!

Just stumbled on a subject that Hopkins told someone else about....I didn't notice the links up there!
