I am trying to find out where she and her husband setteled in in America. Anette Beata is daughter of my great grandfather from his first marrige. She was born in Rødenes,Østfold 09/27-1855. On 05/21-1873 she leaves Norway on the ship Oder, destination is Lapeer, Michigan . Emigration records says that she is married to Christian Hansen (born 01/28-1848) from Oretap,Rødenes. Both Christian and his brother Johan Hansen(born 02/23-1841) are on the ship. Johan Hansen came back to Rødenes and married there.

Hi! Looks like in the 1900 census in Minneapolis Ward 9, Hennepin, Minnesota there is listed:
Christian Hanson born Jan 1856, Annette born Sep 1856, with 6 children: Millie J born Jun 1878, Anna M born Jul 1880, Harry E born Oct 1885, Emil C born Jun 1888, Adolph L born Feb 1896, and William F born Jan 1899. All the children were born in Minnesota. Looks like they had 10 children but only 6 living. And the year of immigration fits, 1873. Christian's occupation is listed as Cabinet Maker. |

OH!! Thank you, that was quick. The only thing is that Christian was born in 1848- but it is still possible that someone did a mistake writing that down--- how can I follow up these people- got any suggestions?

In the Minnesota death index, it lists William F Hanson as being a Doctor. He was born 24 Jan 1899 died 17 Jul 1990. |

I'm sorry, that's what is listed. Jan 1848, not 1856. I was looking at Annette's birthdate when I was writing it.
I'm still looking on ancestry.com. There are a lot of Christian Hanson's listed in the Death Index. There is a possibility for Anette.....there is an Annetta Hanson listed and her death was on 1 Jul 1940 in Hennepin County, Minnesota. I'm not sure if that's her though.
I'll see what I can find! |

You lovely people! Thank you, and Christian was a carpenter here in Norway, I am sure this is the right people; also because of their son Adolph L- Anette had a younger brother who died when he was nearly one year, his name was: Adolph. Wonder what the L means - Thank You- quote: Originally posted by tlwright65

Sometimes the middle initials are written down wrong. I definitely wouldn't go by that! Ancestry.com records are filled with all kinds of mistakes, but that is what investigation is for!! It sounds like they're the right people and I'm glad! I have a ton of people in my tree that lived in Minnesota from Norway and Sweden.... |

Thats good! I do have another family to ask you about: it is actually Anettes aunt, her mothers sister: Her name is Antonette Aslaksdatter born 10/04 1832 in Rødenes, married to Ove Martinius Andreassen(maybe Andersen?because that is what it says in the emigration papers) born 03/26- 1848 in Rødenes. They left for America 06/8-1867-destination :Red Wing- they had no children when they left Norway.

I'm having a lot of trouble with the new names. Unfortunately, Andersen/Anderson is a very very common name in the US....actually Hansen/Hanson is too, but they seemed to be easier to find! I'm still looking though! |

It is confusing to have two separate inquiries in one posting so I will just address Anette.
Here are some free websites for research:
http://people.mnhs.org/dci/Search.cfm
http://people.mnhs.org/dci/Search.cfm?bhcp=1
Rootsweb.com has free Social Security Death Index.
Familysearch.org has the 1880 census.
In the 1880 census, they are in Minneapolis: Christian, born Norway works in a furniture shop. Annette, born Norway Henry 5, born Minnesota Mille, 2, born Minnesota
In the 1905 MN State census they are in Minneapolis: Christian, born Norway, cabinet maker Annette, born Norway Anna, 23, born Minnesota Harry, 19, born Minnesota, cabinet maker Emile, 17, born Minnesota, laborer
No listing of Millie, Adolph or William.
In the Minnesota Death Index, there is a Christian H. Hanson, born 1848, died Hennepin County on November 4, 1906. This index does not start until 1904.
Cannot locate them in any later census. It does not mean they are not there, it just means I cannot find them.
My own great-grandparents came to Minneapolis in 1878 and lost three children due to diptheria and tuberculosis. There was also cholera outbreaks at that time, living in the city with it's crowded, unsanitary conditions was sometimes very difficult.
The Oder was a feeder ship that took emigrants to Hull, England to catch their trans-atlantic ships to North America. |

Christian Hanson is listed in the 1930 census. He's 82 years old, widowed and is listed as a cabinetmaker at a furniture factory. He is living with his single daughter Anna M., who is 49 years old and his grandson, Ralph C. Iverson, who is 18. The grandson is listed as being a biller for a paper house and it says that he was born in Washington.

1910 Census - Hennepin Co. , MN
Christian 62 yrs., widowed, cabinetmaker Anna M. daughter, 28 , single Lawrence, son, 14 or 19, single Willie F., son, 11 Phillip A., son 4
Sorry for going backwards, but I didn't expect to find Christian in the 1930 census. I found him while trying to find Kemb's latest topic.
