Hello!
Thank you very much for the help! My great-grandmother (Andrea Hansdt., born 1868), was the youngest sister of Hansons-sisters/brothers, and she was still living in Norway, and lived at the farm Tomteberget, where they were born, and 1 brother, too, (Andreas Hansen, born 1859, lived at a neighbour-farm with name Wais. I think it's interesting to know were the Hansons emigrated and where they lived. I try to put their names and descendants in my relativs-book.

Hi Liv,
This info is for Maria Hansdatter and her husband Karelius Larsen.
1880 US Census - Traill County, Dakota Territory (before it was a state) Larson, Karelius 40 Larson, Marie 31 Larson, Emma M. 7 born Iowa Larson, Karen 4 born Iowa Larson, Ole 4 born Iowa Larson, Johnie 2 born Iowa Hendrikson, Ole 32 Servant
1900 US Census - Roseville, Traill, North Dakota C Larson, 59, born Oct 1840, farmer, born Norway, immigrated 1870 Mary Larson, 51, born Jan 1849, born Norway, immigrated 1870 Ole Larson, 24, born Mar 1886, born Iowa, John Larson, 22, born May 1878, born Iowa Hilda Larson, 19, born Oct 1880, born North Dakota Henry Larson 15, born Apr 1885, born North Dakota Lewis Larson, 18, born Feb 1887, born North Dakota Carl Larson, 6, born Jan 1890, born North Dakota
1910 US Census - Roseville, Traill Co., North Dakota Carelius Larson, 69, farmer, married 40 years Maria Larson, 61, had 10 children, 8 survived Ida O., 3, granddaughter, born North Dakota
1920 US Census - Portland, Traill Co., North Dakota Maria Larson 70, Retired Farmer Ida 13, grandchild
1930 US Census - Portland, Traill Co., North Dakota Maria C. Larson, 81, widow, married at the age of 22 years Ida O., 23, now listed as Adopted daughter
I only ever counted 8 children, so the other two must of died very young. Settling in the Dakota Territory wouldn't of been an easy life and for Maria to have lived to have been over 81, is really something.
I hope you find this interesting! Take care, Wanda

1930 US Census - Marboe, Sargent County, North Dakota Hanson, Ole, 78, immigrated in 1870, 26 yrs when first married, farmer Hanson, Lavina, 70, immig. in 1867, 18 yrs when first married Hanson, Clarence, 34, son, born South Dakota, farm work (Ole and Lavina must have given the years that they lived in the US and the census taker was off by a year, for both of them)
I didn't find any sign of Olia Hansdatter. That doesn't mean she's not in the census, but that I didn't find her. She probably married and then it becomes hard to find her.
Good luck! Wanda |

This info is on Erik and Inger Hanson.

1880 US Census - Northwood, Grand Forks, Dakota Territory Hanson, Erik 22, farm labor Hanson, Inger 20, Keeping house
1900 US Census - Garfield, Traill Co., ND Hanson, Erik, 45, Sept 1854, Married 21 years, arrived in US in 1879, mail carrier Hanson, Inger, 40, May 1860, married 21 yrs., 0 children, 0 children living Hanson, Emeil, 17, Dec 1882, Adopted son, born North Dakota Petterson, Jacob, 74, June 1825, father-in-law, widowed, came to US in 1852
1910 US Census - Baden, Ward Co., North Dakota Hanson, Erick, 54, 31 yrs married, farmer, arrived in 1879 Hanson, Inger, 49, 31 yrs married, arrived in 1879 Peterson, Jacob, 84, father-in-law, arrived in 1892
1920 US Census - Lowland Township, Mountain Trail, North Dakota (both Erik and Jacob Peterson haved died) Hanson, Emil (Head), 37, single, born in North Dakota, clerk in a general store Hanson, Inger (Aunt), 57, widowed, arrived in US in 1879, naturalized in 1884
1930 US Census - Carpio Township, Ward County, North Dakota Hanson, Inger (Head) 69, widow, arrived in US in 1879, general farming Hanson, Emil, (son) 47, single, farming.
In the 1930 census, there is either a Hans and Bartha Hanson or Henson, living next to Inger Hanson. The birthdates don't match with the Hans Hanson that you mentioned that lived in Hatton, ND. Just thought I'd mention that.
Take Care, Wanda |

Thank you so much again, it's many names to put in my papers! Hans and (Al)berta Hanson lived in Hatton. Hans was born 19. april 1854 and Alberta Johannesdt. was born 18. april 1858, and they emigr. with the same ship in 1. june 1872 and settled to his brother Ole Hanson in Decorah, Iowa. They did marry 17.01.1877 in Iowa.
Hans and Alberta's kids were:
1: Ole Hanson, b: ? 2. Albert H. b: 02. july 1882 3: Eddie (Edwin) H. b: ? 4: John H. b: 23. dec. 1877 in Cresco, Iowa 5: Clara H. b: 10. july 1886 6: Willy (William) H. b: 21. nov. 1888 7: Alma Ovidia H. b: 09. oct. 1893 8: Ida H. b: ? 9: Carl H. died little. 10. I meaned they had 12 kids, but maybe they were 11.
What shall I do for you, when you have found so much?

Hi Liv,
You're more than welcome. I enjoy doing this and so many wonderful people from Norway and the US have helped me with my research on this site, so I'm just glad that I'm able to help you.
I wish I could find them all for you. It's always difficult to find the women, because their name would of changed when they got married.
Are you in touch with anyone from this Hanson family? Most of them had quite a few children and I would guess, that there are still quite a few Hanson's in both North and South Dakota.
Good luck with your searching! Take care, Wanda |

Hi Liv, Here's some more info on Karelius and Maria (Hanson) Larson. I found their death records in the North Dakota Public Death Index. This is a very good source of information, for those that have relatives that lived in North Dakota. Also, I have ordered death certificates from North Dakota and the death certificates from there, have more info on them, than some of the other states I've dealt with. Here's the website : https://secure.apps.state.nd.us/doh/certificates/deathCertSearch.htm
Larson, Karelins(they misspelled his first name), date of death 5/30/1918, County of death Traill Co., 78 yrs., date of birth 10/27/1840, Resident of Traill County, North Dakota Larson, Maria, date of death 1/22/1933, Traill County, ND, 84 yrs., date of birth 1/19/1849, Resident of Traill County, North Dakota
I found some info on someone who I believe to be their son Henry, but I can't confirm it. The birth month and year match, but Henry Larson was a very common name in North Dakota and I don't want to give you any wrong information.
I think their granddaughter Ida O. Larson, must of married after Maria died, or she moved out of state, because I didn't find her under the name Larson in the death index. She would of only been 26 when Maria died, so she probably married.
Also, I had found a death record of a Albert Hanson, who had worked for the railroad and died in Montana. I think he might be Ole and Lovina's son. I'm still trying to confirm that one.
Take care, Wanda |

More North Dakota death records.
Ole Hanson, date of death 10/08/35, Sargent County, ND, 84 yrs., date of birth 6/6/1851, resident of Sargent County, North Dakota Levina Hanson, date of death 11/18/1935, Sargent County, ND, 76 yrs., date of birth 6/18/1859, resident of Sargent County, North Dakota Clarence Hanson, date of death 6/10/1954, Sargent County, ND, 61 yrs., date of birth 1/12/1893, resident of Sargent County, North Dakota
Notice that Levina died a month after Ole? I wonder if some illness went through that area at that time? The romantic in me wants to believe that she was just heartbroken and couldn't go on, but that probably wasn't the case.
Take care, Wanda |

Hi Liv, These are the last one's from North Dakota.
Jacob Peterson (Inger Hanson's father) date of death 1/16/1911, Ward County, ND, 85 yrs., date of birth 6/14/1825, resident of Ward County, North Dakota Inger Hanson, date of death 8/14/1940, Ward County, ND, 80 yrs., date of birth 5/5/1860, resident of Ward County, North Dakota Emil Hanson (adopted son of Erick and Inger) date of death 5/24/1950, Ward County, ND, 68 yrs., date of birth 12/03/1882, resident of Ward County, North Dakota
I believe I found Erick Hanson's name in the death index. They don't have his birth date listed correctly, but his age and the location are right. Erick Hansen, date of death 5/27/1919, Mountrail County, ND, 63 yrs., date of birth 00/00/1856, resident of Mountrail County, North Dakota. His actual birthdate is September 28, 1856, so it's very close, plus the 1920 Census shows Inger Hanson and son Emil, living in Mountrail County, ND. They move back to Ward County sometime before the 1930 census. I wonder if Erick may have been sick and couldn't farm, so they moved to the city/town, since it said that Emil was a store clerk in the 1920 census. After Erick died, they moved back to Ward County to resume farming. Of course, that's just an idea I had, since they moved back to the farm.
That's all I have. I hope this helps to fill in some gaps in your relatives book. I know that I always like to have the death dates or I keep wondering what happened to them. Take care, Wanda
