Ole O born Jul 1835 (according to the 1900 census in Iowa), wife Olivia A born Dec 1843, both born somewhere in Norway. Supposedly they emigrated about 1867, were married around 1864 in Norway. They both died in Winnebago Co, Iowa.

Obviously, I'm searching for any information on them. Since they're husband and wife, I thought it would be better to keep it in the same topic....

Godtland is an unusual name for a farm, same name as the Swedish island Godtland in the Baltic sea,
but there are botn Godtland and Norgaarden farms in the 1865 cencus for Grue parish, Solĝr in Hedmark county. Worth a try.

Grue parish

Ole O Godtland is most likely coming from Grue, Hedmark. An Ole Olsen was confirmed Oct 5 1851 and his birth is listed as Aug 20 1836 and he is coming from Godtland - parents being Ole Olsen and Anne Pedersdatter. See bottom line
An Olivia Gustava Johannesdatter was confirmed Oct 3 1858 and her birth is listed as Dec 25 1843 and she is coming from Nordgaarden - parents being Johannes Guttormsen and Karen Hansdatter. See #6
They married in 1862, see #4

Thank you! Thank you! I saw the Godtland Farm in Grue, but then again I saw the ones in Akershus, Sĝr Trĝndelag, and Oppland. I was trying to go thru the different parishes to see if I could find the marriage of Ole and Olivia, but I could not find them. According to the 1915 census in Iowa, they had been married since 1863-1864 and she had lived in Iowa for 43 years. So, I guess 1862 was close for the amount of time they had been married!! Thank you so much, both of you, for helping me find them. It is so appreciated!!

Hi Tami,

I too am searching for information about Ole and Olivia Godtland. I've traced our Godtland family as far back as Ole and Olivia. But I don't know how to go about searching for information in Norway. Do you have any tips for how to proceed? Or do you have more information about Ole and Olivia Godtland that you would be willing to share with me?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Annette
