I would appreciate any assistance in determining if Claus Frimm Hagerup born in 1833 in Borgund, died in approx. 1879, in the United States (married to Karen Helene Olsen, who was born in Bergen) related in any way to Edvard Hagerup Grieg.

You'll just have to compare the family trees for both Claus and Edvard Grieg. Grieg is a famous person so you might be able to find that somewhere on the Internet.
I searched for anything about Claus and found the following -

Good luck.

Could not see any immediate connection between Claus Frimm Hagerup and Edvard Hagerup Grieg, but both Hagerup names looks to be coming from Møre & Romsdal county, so there is a possibility...

Here is Edvard's family:
1.gen
Edvard Hagerup Grieg (1843-1907), parents: Alexander Joachimsen Grieg & Gensine Judith Hagerup
Wife: Nina Hagerup (1845-1935), parents: Herman Didrik Edvardsen Hagerup & Adelina Falck Werligh

2.gen
Alexander Joachimsen Grieg (1810-1875), parents: Joachim Grieg & Julie Catharine Monrad
Gensine Judith Edvardsdr Hagerup (1814-1875), parents: Edward Hagerup & Ingeborg Benedicte Jansdr

Herman Didrik Edvardsen Hagerup (1816-1900), parents: Edward Hagerup & Ingeborg Benedicte Jansdr

3.gen
Edward Hagerup (1781-1853), Parents Eiler Eilersen Hagerup & Magdalena Margrethe Edwardsen Christie

4.gen
Eiler Eilersen Hagerup (1718-1789), parents Eiler Bertelsen Hagerup Kongel (1691-1747) & Laurentze Hansdatter Spydeberg (1686-)

5.gen
Eiler Bertelsen Hagerup Kongel, Parents: Bertil Pedersen Kongel & Klara Jakobsdatter Buck

Edvard and wife Nina were cousins.

You find all these names on various Pedigree Resource Files on LDS.

Thanks to all who replied to my inquiry regarding Claus Frimann Hagerup (married to Karen Helene Olsen) and his relationship to Edvard Hagerup Grieg. Over the past several months, I have researched many data bases concerning the Grieg and Hagerup family ancestry without success in establishing a relationship. Recently I came across a family tree developed by Oscar Riss. On the top of the page it states 'Hagerup mitgeteilt von Oscar Riis, Bergen.' This chart shows that Claus Hagerup was the son of Edvard Eilertsen Hagerup (1781-1853) and Ingeborg Benedicte Janson (parents of Gesine Judith Hagerup, mother of Edvard Hagerup Grieg). I have not found anything to support Mr. Riis chart and wonder if anyone knows Mr. Oscar Riis, or how to get in touch with him. Alternately, I wonder if Edvard Eilertsen Hagerup was married more than once? Thanks in advance for any information that can be provided.

Maybe I came in on this too late, because I don't understand the confusion, but here is Claus Frimann's baptismal record. Could someone please take a look at it and see who the parents are?

Hi,
Claus Frimann Ferdinandsen Hagerup, born 04 SEP 1833 in Borgund, Møre & Romsdal, was the son of Ferdinand Anton Abelseth Hagerup (1795-1856) & Bolethe Johanne Jørgensdatter Meldal (1793-).

Thanks, Jan Peter!

This is the right Claus Frimann Hagerup, isn't it? If so, the parents aren't the same as Oscar Riis claims them to be. That doesn't mean that they aren't related, just that Oscar Riis isn't correct in stating who Claus's parents are.

Good luck!
Wanda
