Hi Harry,

A "grader" is the person that inspects the lumber and decides how much they can charge for the lumber. He basically gives it a grade and that determines if it should be used for flooring, building, etc... He would look for defects, such as knots and twists in the lumber. That's not a technical description, but hopefully it helps.
