Hi On Ellis Island there is Anna Petterson arriving Feb 27, 1893 age 25 Last Place of Residence: Gothenberg. Arriving on the ship Etruria. Possibly your Anna and she lists her destination as Michigan which could be a town/city or the state. There is a Michigan City Indiana which is not far from Chicago. Carla |

Were either of them married at the time of emigration? |

Brining!
Seems to be the right girl but you never know. I guess we need to find more in Michigan or wherever she moved!
Neither of them were married when they went or when their father died back in Sweden 1899!! |
Thanks for helping me out! |

If someone has the World Deluxe Subscription to Ancestry, they might have an easier time searching through the Swedish Immigration list.

Thanks Wanda!
That's about all we know; the ship (Rollo) and where she went (Chicago)...but then? We do not know the name of the ship from England though!
Are there any passengerlists saved from the ships between England and America? |
Thanks for helping me out! |

Ellisisland.org has lots of ship's passenger lists for the ships that came through Ellis Island. That's where Anna was located.
The reason I listed the emigranter's list, is so that people could see the exact date in February that she left Oslo and also that they didn't have her listed as Maria Persdotter, but as Marit Person. Then you can look at the ships leaving London/Liverpool/Southhampton a couple of days after that and cross check that with the ships listed on this site. I didn't find her on the Castlegarden.org site, but that doesn't mean she's not there. Her name could be listed wrong.
I will check with the possible ships leaving England after February 16, 1889 and see how many there are.

This is the link on this site for the possible connections for the Rollo that sailed on February 15, 1889 from Christiania. http://www.norwayheritage.com/t_corresp.asp?id=2486
You would only probably need to look at the ships that arrived before February 26th, possibly longer, if the ships were really averaging 6 days to cross the Atlantic.
Here's a link to the Swedish American Historical Society http://www.swedishamericanhist.org/sweden_web_links.html There might be something on there that can help you. Good luck, Wanda |

Hello. According to the Emibas Migration Files, it lists the following:
Maria Persdotter, Piga, b 28 Oct 1859 in Sunne, emigrated 31 Dec 1888
Anna Persdotter, Hemmansägardotter (woman) b 22 Dec 1867 in Sunne, emigrated 3 Jan 1893.
What is Hemmansägardotter besides woman....is she married or single? |

Hemman means "homestead" and dotter means "daughter", but what the middle of the word means, I don't know. |

Ok, it sounds like it doesn't have anything to do with married or single then. Thanks, Wanda. I was looking online for a good Swedish/English dictionary to see it! So, still looking. |

Thanks Einar,
I had most of it right.
It still doesn't get us any closer to finding these two.

Here are the Illinois marriages for Maria Person and Anna Person. The index only goes until 1900, but since we can't find them in the 1900 census under their names, they must have married.
Maria Person Aronson, Axel Person, Maria Christina 11/13/1900 Cook County Nelson, John Alfred Person, Maria Christina 10/06/1900 Cook County
Anna Person Hoglund, Olof Larson Person, Anna 11/05/1892 Winnebago County Monson, Olof Person, Anna 09/28/1892 Cook County Olson, Carl Person, Anna 10/02/1897 Tazewell County Peterson, Edward Person, Anna 08/22/1894 Cook County Bohman, Alfred J. Person, Anna M. 09/23/1897 Rock Island County Nelson, Nels Person, Anna Mathilda 02/22/1896 Cook County
Cook County is the county that Chicago is in, so that might be a good place to start.

Maria's last name is not Aronson, her birthdate doesn't match up with the Illinois Death certificate for Maria Aronson.
