I think I remember somewhere in the past being told the reason that some church records were duplicated in Hurum, Buskerud and Strommen, Vestfold. Can anyone refresh my memory? I have two ancestors that show up in both as Christened, on different dates, but in the same month or so. This happens with only the first two of four children so think there was a fime frame of duplication. 1837 & 1838. The other two siblings born in 1839 & 1842 were not duplicated that I can find.
Full detail as I have it:
Kirkebøker, 1715-1928 Den Norske kirke. Hurum prestegjeld (Buskerud) Døpte b. 9 1816-1826 - FHL INTL Film 123953

Torger Guttormsen Male Christening: 05 Feb 1837 Strommen Vestfold Norway Hanne Martine Guttormsen Female Christening: 29 Apr 1838 Strommen Vestfold Norway
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. |

Perhaps you are thinking of the two copies that still exist of many Norwegian church records - the second being called the Klokker copy or the klokkerbok. Those are explained as part of this article about the Norwegian church records -
Norwegian kirkebøker - parish registers
The Digitalarkivet web site has been adding scanned images of the original Norwegian parish church records for anyone with Internet access since November 2005. They are planning that this project of adding the records may be finished by the end of the year 2007. More records are added every week.
The Digitalarkivet web site - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar An English option is available by clicking on that word from either the left hand column or the blue link bar along the bottom of the homepage. The scanned images are available from the homepage link "Skanna kyrkjebøker" [Norwegian version]/"Digitised parish records" [English version] which is listed along the left hand column and from the blue banner of links along the top section of the homepage. After you've clicked on that link and a new main page has presented on the screen be sure and read the instructions that are available from the Digitalarkivet for navigating the scanned records. The instructions are available in Bokmål (official Norwegian), Nyorsk (Norwegian), Davvisámegiella (Saami), and English. Recommended basic reading are the "Startsiden" [Norwegian version]/"Main page" [English version], "Brukerveiledning" [Norwegian version]/"User's guide" [English version] and "Om tjenesten" [Norwegian version]/"About this service" [English version].

I would suggest that you rely on the info in the scanned parish records, they show Jens Andreas, see #3, born Sept 27 1839, christened Jan 12 1840. Guttorm Edvard, see #58 born May 24 1842, christened June 12 1842. Torger, see #15 born Sept 26 1836, christened Febr 5 1837. Hanne Martine, see #37 born March 20 1838, christened April 29 1838. |

Strømm, present Svelvik, was a local parish in Hurum main parish until 1861. Both the Klokkerbok and the Ministerialbok show Torger born Sep. 26. 1836 and christened in Strømm Feb. 5. 1837.

I'm sitting here not knowing if I should laugh or cry. Some simple advice from the pros has given me that for which I have been searching for 20 years. With the most recent advice, I have found all 7 children, born and baptized, and the untimely death of their mother just months before the family moved to Minnesota. Thank you all for the most awesome week I have had in a long time! |
