This forum has been so great, thought I would ask about one more tree branch...
Any info on the parents or siblings of :
Lars (Sars) Kasperson Hitterdahl Born: Aug 1850 Norway Died: 5 Sep 1934 Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
Married Gertrude Feragen Born: 1854 Norway Died: 1919 Thief River Falls, Minnesota
Children: Elizabeth (Feragen), Sophie (Howick-my ggm), mystery daughter, & mystery son
I know that Lars helped homestead Hitterdal, MN with his brothers and then moved to TRF, MN.
Any help is extremely appreciated. |

Lars Birth Record (click on image to enlarge)
Looks like this might be your Lars....#72 born on 27 Aug 1852 to Casper Jørgensen Hitterdal and Lisbet Larsdatter, also born in Røros, Sør-Trøndelag.
1865 census for Lars
Looks like Lisbet is a widow by this time, but here's Lars and his family. |

Some details will help - Theif River Falls is/was in Pennington County of Minnesota but that county was established in 1910 from Red Lake County.
1910 US census (Norden twp, Pennington Co. MN) lists Lars K Hitterdal, 57 years of age, immigrated 1881 Wife Gertude, 55 years of age, also immigrated 1881.
1920 US census (same location) Lars, widower, 67 years of age, immigrated 1881. Lives in Howick household.
Trickier to find was the same man listed as 'John' Hitterdal, birth Aug 1852 Norway, immigrated 1881 Wife Gertrude, birth March 1855 Norway, immigrated1881 Resided in Norden township, Red Lake Co., MN

The marriage record, June 27 1879, for Lars and Gjertrud is #13. They got their first child Kasper March 10 1880, see #17. In April 1881 they moved from Hitterdal in Røros to "Amerika", see 24,25 and 26 here. |

Hitterdal was more a countryside owned by Røros Copper Works listed by the UN as World Heritage contining 8 farms in 1801, all tenant farmers emplyeed as farmers and miners as for Feragen at lake Feragen employeed as farmers, miners or workers at Feragen Smelting hut opened 1661.
Røros 1875: Lars Caspersen lived on Tørresvold with his mother widow Lisabet Larsdatter and two brothers, Hendrik and Ole helping his grandfather, tenant farmer Jørgen Caspersen with the farm.
Røros 1900: After Lars emigrated his younger brother Ole Kaspersen take over Tørresvold and became a free farmer and married Sofie Abrahamsdatter, six children born in Tydal, a nearby mountain municipality and a copper mining area.
Widower Kristen Jørgensen Gjetberget born 1825 "Hørende til familien" is a member of the family. Lucia Johnsdr is a visiting tailor.
I wonder if Tørresvold was on of the 8 "Hitterdal farms" in the 1801 cencus.

Hi, if your student´s forefather was from Røros in Sør-Trøndelag county in Central Norway he was most likely from on of the Hitterdalfarms in Hitterdal countryside at Røros parish.
Another possibility: He was from Hitterdal parish in Telemark county in Southern Norway, now named Heddal, a countryside in the northern part of Notodden municipality.
If he want to put up a new Topick in Norway-Heritage we might find out.

Tøresvold seems to be conncted to the family fare back because when Jørgen Caspersen #23 was christened March 28. 1793 its a note which must be understood as his parents married at home on Tørresvold 1779 "+26/3 79 paa Tørresvold", Click here Their oldest child Gunnild was born that year.
Røros 1900: Lars brother Henrik Kaspersen live as a free farmer on farm Gjetberget , married to Marie Larsdatter with four children. Also his mother widow Elisabeth Larsdatter born 1822 live on the farm as "kaarenke", former owner of Tørresvold, and widow Kristen Jørgensdatter (an old aunt) seems to live on both Gjetberget and Tørresvold.

Elisabeth Larsdatter died April 28. 1905, the funeral was Mai 7:
Elisabeth Larsdatter Tørresvold føderaadsenke (former owner and widow), widow after farmer Kasper Jørgensen, born 1822 on Salvesvold Tørresvold (place of living) in Hitterdal (cause of death) "alderdoms svaghet" old age #7
Tørresvold in Hitterdal is coming from mans name Tørres Salvesvold is coming from mans name Salve Vold is reffering to a plain level covered with gras, a perfect place to build a farm.
