Do you know the given name of Samuels father - starts possibly with H, there are too many Dahlen farms in Telemark to track Samuel.

Kåre, you found him! - somehow I looked in the same book, but must have overlooked the record.
You have not recorded Ingebjørg (yet), but she is here #4 she also had a sister Giertrud born in 1815 see next to the last one here

Einar,
Dalen could have ben a needle in a haystack, this time perhaps luck was better than common sence for me (a Norwegian saying).

Dalen is located to the Busnes area at the western beach of the deep lake Tinnsjø in the northern part of Gransherad.
"Zoom ut" twice and watch Tuddal west of Dalen.

Jon Jonsen Busnes was on of Ingrid Samuelsdtr´s godfathers 1819.

All the christian seremonies in Tuddal was taken place in Tuddal Stavechurc demolished 1796 when new Tuddal church was inagurated.

The 1801 census for Gransherad is a bit confusing, split up in both Hitterdal and Hjartdal municipalities.

Hjartdal 1801
Samuel Jonsen Lilleland/Lisland age 7 on Lisland 1801 with his parents Jon Samuelsen and Grertru (Giertru?) Torsdr and Kari age 28 is employeed as a servant.

I think the farm is named Liland today.

The 1875 Minnesota Census doesn't really add any more information, but I'll list it, just to fill the gap.
1875 Minnesota Census - Hamden, Becker County, MN

Samuel H. Dalen, 29, born Norway
Christi Dalen, 29 (?), female, born Norway
Ingeborg Dalen, 3, born Minnesota
Helge Dalen, 1, born Minnesota
