I believe this is Simen Hansen and Mathea Halvorsdatter with their other children in the 1900 Norway census. http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=2&filnamn=f00613&gardpostnr=310&personpostnr=1743&merk=1743#ovre

Could this possibly be Mathea Halvorsdatter's father and grandfather listed in this 1900 Norway Census? I saw in their marriage record that her father is listed as Halvor Ellingsen. The only problem is that their should be younger sons listed with them, right?

Wanda;

Yes - Ingvald's father was from Fåberg/Faaberg, Oppland CO.

This is in Norwegian but I put it here anyway to let you see.

IF we have the right man it should be possibele to trace his roots back - and also find living relatives in Norway.

IF we could state Ingwald Simpsons birth date!!

Arthur,

You haven't mentioned if you have Ingwald's death certificate yet. If you don't, you might want to at least have an obituary. The Concord Library should have it.

Also, do you have his Naturalization papers? He did at least petition for Naturalization. Here he's listed in the index and this page also has info on how to get a copy of the papers. http://www.sampubco.com/nats/ma/s.htm

By the way, I wouldn't worry too much about him listing his birth year differently in American census records. My great grandfather has a different birth year on each census. Sometimes I think if they didn't speak English very well, they would give their age and then the person taking the info would subtract their age from the date and not take into consideration if they had celebrated their birthday yet, that year. So you always want to look at the date that the census was taken on.

Good luck!
Wanda

Wanda;
yes - I also know that birth dates might be incorrect.
I am almost 100 % sure I found the right person. Ingvald Simensen is a very rare name in Norway, his age, birth day - and month is just like Invald from Norderhov.

A fellow genealogist, Ellef Ellewfsen from Nordehov area has done some progress on "my" Ingvald's roots: http://www.disnorge.no/slektsforum/viewtopic.php?p=256554#256554
