In past entries, you all have been so helpful in translation and suggestions. I've succeeded in finding the entry where my ancestors were made members of Domkirken, Frue, in Stavanger in late 1846. I recognize the names, but alas cannot read the rest of the entry. I hope I have enterd this link correctly. It is for Digital Archives of Norway County: Rogaland
Parish name: Stavanger Domkirken, Frue Register: Parish register (official) Number (archival reference): A 15 Period: 1844 - 1854 Location: Regional State Archives of Stavanger image 367 entry 53 Thanks in advance

It's a registration of the imigration of Anders Olof Lundgren & Maria Magdalena Erland into Stavanger parish on 24-Jan-1846. Link Their children Olof Ludvig and Cecilia Agnetta are with them.
It says the family are moving from Lundby in Gothenburg, and that they got married in Gothenburg. A bit hard to read where they where born.. Somewhere in Berges...?
Reason for moving into parish: To seek (...) ?
It also list his profession before his name... Børse?...??
Their daughter Cecilia Agnetta Andersdr Lundgren was christened just a few months earlier, on 24 AUG 1845 in Lundby parish, Gothenburg, Gothenburg and Bohus, Sweden.

His profession was "Børsesmed" - Gunsmith and the reason for moving to Stavanger was "for at drive profesjonen" - to execute the profession. Olof Ludvig was born in Carlshamn and Maria Magdalena in Bergen. Since Maria Magdalena Erland was born in Bergen she is probably the Maria Magdalena <PETERSDATTER ERLAND> found in the LSD record born in Bergen 16 Jun 1818 by the parents Peter Olai ERLAND and Agnethe DE LANGE. |

No, I believe it reads "bødkermand", ie. a craftsman making barrels. Ref. previous topics about these people.
"Bødkers" at work:

Well, we will get there in the end - Bødker - I agree, but svend - not mand, so his occupation was Bødkersvend can we agree on that? |

Bødkersvend looks to be right...
Ie. he was a journeyman, waiting for his craft certificate.
Bødker = cooper, barrel maker.

Thank you all. I really appreciate all your help. My ancestor was a carpenter and furniture maker after settling in Chicago. The daughter mentioned in this listing unfortunately died before 1847, and Olaf and Mary had another, born in Dec. 1847, who they named the same, Cecilia Agnete. This daughter was my great-great-grandmother! This is so exciting! I can't wait to share this with other family members.

Hi Debbie, have you found the "first" Cecilia Agnetta dead somewhere...? In a parishbook or something?
Or how do you know that your great-great-grandmother is a different girl?

The baptisimal record for your g-g-grandmother Cecilie Agnete is #416 born Dec 12, baptized Dec 26 1847. The parents were living at Rosenkoldhaugen and the sponsors were Knud Strøm, Johan Netterstrøm, Petter Johnsen, Ingeborg Møller, Oline Halvorsen and Berthe Olsdatter. The death record of Cecilie Agnete coming from Sweden in 1846 is #206 died Oct 1 and were burried Oct 7 1846. |

Regarding my great-great-grandmother, I am only assuming her older sister died. There are two birth records for Cecila Agnete, one in Sweden in 1845, and the one in Stavanger in 1847. Thanks to the above post for locating the older one's death record. I've been scanning the entries on the internet, but with my dial up service each page takes a long time to load. My family records show my ancestor was born in 1847.
Thanks! |
