Hello -

I have family from Sor-Trondelag who lived on Roden and Halstad farms. When they came to America they used the name Lundberg. I am a bit confused why they would take this name. Might anyone be able to clarify this for me? My ancestor was Randi Lundberg (Mjoen), and her brother was Ole Halstad. Their parents were Ole Pedersen from Auren (Øien) Farm, North Trondelag, and Beret Rasmusdatter from Tønset Parish, Hedmark County.

Thank you.

What dates go with these names? Births? emigrations?

Thanks for the reply!

Parents:
mother - Beret Rasmusdatter - b. 22 Aug 1816, Tønset Parish, Hedmark County; d. 1909 in MN, USA
father - Ole Pedersen - b. 1817, Auren (Øien) Farm, Stjørdal Parish, Nord-Trøndelag County; d. 02 Dec 1843, Roden Farm, Malvik Parish, Strinda District, Sør-Trøndelag County

Beret also married Ole Andreas Jonsen in 1854 in Malvik Parish, Sor-Trondelag. He was b. 1822 in Nøsberget Farm, Strinda District, Malvik Parish, Sør-Trøndelag County and died in USA. He and Beret emigrated in about 1875.

Children of Beret and Ole Pedersen (husband #1) are:

1) Randi Olsdatter Lundberg, born 19 Mar 1843 at Roden Farm, Malvik (Strinde) Parish, Sør-Trøndelag County and died 1929 in USA. She married Iver Mjoen and they emigrated in 1872.
2) Ole Olsen Halstad, born 17 Jun 1844 at Roden Farm, and emigrated to USA 1865/1866.

I wasn't sure if "Lundberg" came from Beret's 2nd husband. Various US certificates list Randi's maiden name as either Lundberg or Halstad, but she seems to have lived at Roden Farm most of the time. She also relocated to Aarstein Farm, Ibestad Parish, Troms County in the 1860s. I just have no clue where the name Lundberg comes from!

Randi Lundberg married (1) Johan Lampe, (2) Iver Mjoen.

Kind Regards,
Mike

You've brought these persons into a number of previous threads. Much was given in links to actual vital documents from the parish records already. I'd hate to see anyone waste time finding all the same things again.

What specific Norwegian document listed her as Randi Olsdatter Lundberg??

Hopkins -

The name Lundberg came up previously, but I added more information to this post. I probably should have done it under the same posting - sorry, some of us aren't as savvy as you with this site. I will be more careful. This is a hobby for me and I'm just trying to discover my family history.

Randi Lundberg only listed 'Lundberg' as her surname on American documents. She also listed it as Halstad. The norwegian documents list her as Olsen(datter) Roden.

I have tried and tried to locate a 'Lundberg' farm, parish, region, etc. but have had no luck. The only connection I have found was that Rand moved up to Tromso for a few years before emigrating. Although she lived on the Arstein Farm in Tromso, I noticed that there was a Lundberg Farm in that area but cannot make this connection.

Thank you for any feedback.
