I am searching for the birthplace in Norway of Peter Hogenson who immigrated to the USA in 1854 with his wife Sonova Bryildsen. He lived in Wisconsin until 1863 after which he moved to Olmsted County, MN. He had 7 living children including Hogen Merrill Hogenson, born 1857 in Wisconsin, who later homesteaded in Polk County, MN. Thank you for any help you can give me. Kathleen Sigdesad

Hi,
this must be the people you're searching:
  • "Peter Hogenson" in the 1880 census for Minnesota: Click here
  • "Hogen Merill Hogenson" in the 1880 census for Minnesota: Click here
Or from Digitalarkivet: "Peter Hogenson" and "Hogen Merill Hogenson"

Peter Hogenson is (from the census) born in 1835 (1834-1836) in Norway.
His birth name is (most likely) Peder Haagensen.

But where is he born?
I think you will have to find his death certificate or something...
Or if you can find him in the 1900-census, that might give some more information.

Jan

I'm pretty sure I have found them. I located Soneva Bringlesdatter and family (no Peter maybe working somplace else) in the 1860 census for Rock county WI I don't know why she used her "maiden" name but due to Norwegian naming customs that is probably what she gave the census taker and he assumed it was the family name Click Here
Hogan is there and they have 7 year old son Christopher who was born in Norway. On the LDS Family Search site there is a birth record for
Christofer <PEDERSEN>
Sex: M

Event(s):
Birth: 20 Apr 1853 Place: <Kvam, Hordaland, Norway>
Christening: 19 Jun 1853 Place: Kvam, Hordaland, Norway

Parents:
Father: Peder HAAGENSEN
Mother: Synneva BRINGELSDR

Allowing for the way the spelling of names were changed when people came to the US I am pretty confident that this is your Sonova and Peter

Dear Kathleen--

While doing a random search I came upon your 2003 post regarding Peter and Sonova Hogenson. They were my great grandparents, and I have a fair amount of information including photographs, on them. Could you let me know a bit about your interest in them and perhaps we can exchange some information.

Best regards,
George B. Hogenson
