My relative Lars Poulsen (rud) is in the 1865 census as owning and managing his own farm.

the farm is listed under district 1 page 15 in Ostfold, Thrygstad

I would like a history of the farm. I can't read Norwegian. Specifically I'd like to know if his father owned it before him....

There are no on line parish records for the year he was born 1833 in Thrygstad and I am trying to find Lars Paulsens father and mother and his date of birth and possibly marriage info.

Good information about translating the formats of Norwegian parish church records during various time periods, many of the basic terms used and understanding how to use the information should be studied at this web site -

Looking at the 1865 census and Lars Poulsen, Trøgstad he is living at Sjønhaug nordre, he was a lease holder (many farmers were at that time and before), not an owner.
Looking up on parish records you should subtract the age given from 1866 since the age given in the census should be how old they would be the year after the census.
From the birth record for Lars you will see that he was actually born when his parents Povel Larsen and Berte Jahnsdatter were on the Ruud farm.
In 1865 they were still on the Rud farm, see here
Paul Larsen was the owner of Rud østre.
Paul (Povel) Larsen is most likely the one baptized Febr 16 1806, see right hand page here
His parents Lars Jonsen and Christine Larsdatter were living on the Myrevold farm. In 1801 you find them here

Thank you all for your great help. I now want to visit Norway to see where my relatives lived. I have a question about the most recent information you provided about the 1801 Census in Thrygstad.

Lars and Christine on the Myrevold farm appear to have a bunch of children Gulbran, Christian, Inger, Kirstine, Christian, Johann....there is no Povel or Paul....how then could Lars Poulsen b 16 May 1835 be their son?
is there some naming pattern I am missing or (more likely) too new to norwegian geneology to understand?

If Paul/Povel was born in 1806 as the son of Lars and Christine then he can't be in the family for the 1801 census.

I've given you this link a couple times before. Take the time to read the articles - you'll find one of them is dedicated to Norwegian naming patterns and practices.

Thank you for your patience and help. I had read the naming patterns article and that is why this one confused me. I thought maybe Paul might have been nickname for Gulbran or something, but see that was a foolish idea on my part.

I will keep searching for the real relative.

Also..Could you tell me how to do that neat technique of making the entire website condense into a number or word? I've experimented with it, but the website doesn't attach to the word I type. Or maybe it's a secret expert norwegian geneologist handshake/typing thing?
