I purchased a Statens kartverk map of Rissa, which shows many farm names, but not "Nøst", or "Naust" as far as I can find. Can anyone suggest how to precisely locate this old farm on the map? Or on Google Earth or other? Thanks!

Listen over gårder er hentet fra "Norske Gaardnavne". v.14, p.111
81. Naust. Udt. naust. -- af Naustom AB. 63. Nausta (Acc.)
AB. 63 s. Nøste NRJ. II 42. Nosthe DN. X 792 c. 1550. Nøste
1559. 1618. Nøst 1723.
Naustar f., Flt. af naust n., Nøst (Indl. S. 68).

Dif. spellings as you found in Ola Rygh and a document from 1550 where Nøst is spelled Nosthe concerning the very rich widow Fru (Lady) Ingerd Ottesdatter Rømer til Austrått on behalf of Rein Monastery in Rissa, Lady Ingerd disposed all these farms, including Nøst "havde det i Forlening" on behalf of the king as long as she lived.

Ola Ryghs dif. spellings and link to the document for Nøst, enter this map, write: naust rissa, press søk and view Nøst (four farms) and Rein Monastery by enter "Foto"

Thank you both for the great info, I appreciate it! This is a long way from where I thought the farm was, so am going to have to do some further research it looks like! Thanks again!

Being called "Naust" it has to be close to the water, because it literally means boat-house...
