I hope this question makes sense. How do I know that the people I find in Norway are really my relatives? I ask because a lot of the people had the same name. What method do I use to make sure that is the correct family? Example: my relatives are Knutson and Knudson (2 different lines). There were a lot of Knut Knutson's. |

There may be different ways to prove that you have found the right one, parents, farms, marriages, siblings etc. - sometimes you may not get the confirmation that you seek. Try some help from other persons if you are in doubt, local knowledge could be an advantage. |

When you do genealogy research, good genealogy research, there are many factors involved in identifying your ancestors. You have to use ALL identifying information such as when born, occupation, where lived, names of other family members, etc. to be sure that you've found the right persons.
It takes research, research, research to create a family tree that as accurate and complete as possible. To do good research you should study the best advice available about the resources available and how to use and interpret them and then work carefully. Stay organized and do all you can to accurately DOCUMENT and source everything you've found.
I always advise people to start their Norwegian ancestral search by studying the following articles available online - there are more but these are good to start with. Ancestors From Norway articles
If you want some assistance in searching you'll have to share the details of what is being sought. Writing a Good Query
My biggest challenge in my many branches of Norwegian family research was to find one particular Ole Olsen ... , a name probably even more common than Knutson or Knudsen. I did finally find him - but it took a lot of work and digging for details -- the celebration in the end was all the bigger for that!!
