Hi,

The Illinois State Archives website has several wonderful database to search, including marriages 1763-1900 and pre-1916 death records and 1916-1950 death records. The boys in this family are aged just right to have been soldiers in the Civil War and there is a database of Illinois soldiers also at this site.

I had a look at this link, but i think this is another couple. Hans is born ab. 1815, and Martha ab.1814. They got a child together in 1857 named Ellen, same years as Anton in this famly. They also had Lars (after Martha's first husband?)born 1850, and Omund born ab. 1857.

Hi Leif, I have scanned the records on ancestry.com. I have had a difficult time tracking down any of the Nelson children. There are plenty of Nels, Andrews, Jacobs and Ole's in Illinois during that time period. No way to tell which one is which and did they move over the years? There are 3 Ole Nelsons with the correct approximate birthdate living in Mission, Illinois in the 1880 census alone. I'm not sure if you only want the information about the Nelson children, but I found the 1910 census for Omund and family. 1910 United States Federal Census
about Omond Omundson
Name: Omond Omundson
[Omund Omundson]
Age in 1910: 53
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1857
Birthplace: Illinois
Relation to Head of House: Head
Father's Birth Place: Norway
Mother's Birth Place: Norway
Spouse's Name: Rebecca
Home in 1910: Mission, La Salle, Illinois
Marital Status: Married
Race: White
Gender: Male
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Omond Omundson 53
Rebecca Omundson 46
Elma O Omundson 19
Otto R Omundson 9

Another item of interest, on Ancestry.com, you can do a search for a particular person. Once your ancestor is located, you can click on "find other people looking for" link and this will bring up various members who have created family trees that may include your ancestor. Well, I did this for Hans and Omund and there appears to a tree created by someone that includes your ancestors! This member has decided to make their tree private. There is an option to send a message to the owner of this tree for more information. If you do not have a membership, it may be worth a monthly subcription to see. Of course, be prepared that this person may not wish to correspond, but you never know. Good luck.

Was reading your question on the where about of the nelson children. Hans Omundsson is my gggrandpa. He did come from Norway
and we think in the Nordbo, Rennsoy area . Some of my spelling is off sorry.
Info recieved from Chris Haney, posted 2/07/2008 is very close to right.I think that there was 6 children born to Martha with Nelson.
I think that the Dads name could have been Jones Nelson (43) and the other dau name was Melinda (5) .Jones and Melinda names
show up in the 1850 Mortality schedule of LaSalle County. This may be the reason that she joined with Hans. They then Married in
1850, they had three children, Lars , Issabel, and Omund.
Lars and Issabel went to Iowa around the Hamilton County area.

I have found info that the 4 Nelson boys were in the Civil War, Andrew ,141st reg , illinios infantry (100 day) Co F,,,Jacob, 104thIllinios inf. (co G
Nels, was the oldest one , show a Nelse who mustered out at Lisbon ,in Kendall co . Will check more on Him. Ole C 141st ill. inf., co F,
He is Buried in on Hans Omundson plot in the Norway Cem outsde of Mission, ill.. Somethig else I think that 2 of Marthas bro-in -laws
were living with Her and Hans , one of the cenus shows this there names were Laurin Nelson (24) ,and Nels Nelson (22) both from Norway

This will probably cause you more ?s. Sorry

Hans Omundsen was baptized Dec 15 1815 in Rennesøy, see record at bottom of left hand page.
He was a child born out of wedlock, his mother being Ingeborg Hansdatter Neraboe and the father Omund Omundsen fra Lichnæs.
Hans Omundsen was confirmed June 3 1832, see #266
His parents seems to be married, and they live at Skjørvestad.
The marriage was Jan 4 1818, see #28
Omund was then 20 years old and a farmhand.
Ingeborg was a cottars daughter from Sørbøe.
In the
1801 census she is named Engeborg, and was then 13 years old. Her parents were Hans Gunnerssen and Berthe Mathiasdatter.

Hans Omundsen's mother Ingeborg Hansdtr (1788-1875) was living on a "plass" (cottar's farm) of Sørbø farm in Rennesøy when he was born. Her father, Hans Gunnarsson, had died about 2 weeks before the birth of this grandchild and her older brother, Gunnar Hansson was living with his family on Nedrebø plass of Sørbø farm.
The birth/baptismal record for Hans Omundsen lists Nedrebø as Nerabø, not an unusual spelling variation for that time period and area.

The baptismal record for the child Hans indicates a link between Hans father, Omund Omundson (ca 1799-1875), and Nedre Liknes farm in Åkra, Rogaland, which would make it appear that he was the son of Omund Olsen and Malene Johannesdtr. That family is found on the 1801 census (Omund=Amund) -
Lichnæs farm 1801

Thank you for the corrections Hopkins. The burrial of Hans Gunnersen Nov 26 is recorded on the same page as the baptism, he was 67 years old when he died.
Omund Omundsen, Nedre Lichnæs had the following siblings
Peder Omundsen (approx. 1789)
Martha Omundsdatter (approx. 1791)
Ole Omundsen (approx. 1795)
Omund Olsens parents were Ole Olsen and Martha Omundsdatter.
Malene Johannesdatters parents were Johannes Endresen and Britha Jonsdatter.
