You have done a lot of digging, Jan Peter.
Only problem as I see it is Dianes findings
quote:
1920 United States Federal Census:
Carl W Quanbeck
Minneapolis Ward 12, Hennepin, Minnesota
Age: 36 years
b. abt 1884, Minnesota
Head of household
Spouse: Sofie A.
Fathers Birth Place: Norway
Mother's Birth Place: Norway

Carl W Quanbeck, 36
Sofie A. Quanbeck, 30
Helen Quanbeck, 5-6/12
Warren Quanbeck, 2-6/12
Lawrence Quanbeck, 1

which corresponds with the original topic
quote:
The fathers name was Carl Quanbeck and he married Sophie. I think her maiden name would have been Anderson. I know that they had a son named Warren and I think they had a daughter named Ruth who got married.

Your Carl though is some 10 years late.

More digging will need to be done, or maybe some more info could be given from TLarson?

I agree that it is Carl W Quanbeck found in Minneapolis Ward 12, Hennepin, Minnesota for census 1920 we're looking for. But I think his age could be 10 years off.
The Minnesota Death Certificate Index list him as born 17 Jul 1893 (if it is the same guy...).

A possibility (wild shot) for his mother, although not 100%... Interesting though that her mother was named Thea...
Betzy Marie Halvorsen
Birth: 07 OCT 1864, Eidskog, Hedmark
Christening: 04 NOV 1864, Eidskog, Hedmark
Parents: Halvor Bredesen & Thea Olsen
Born Oct 1864 while census-1900 saif born Jul 1864.

Great work both of you.

Some of the Kvambæks in USA can be decendants after Thor Svennungsen´s two younger brother Halvor born Mai 5. 1862 and Svennung born Sept. 9. 1864, they both emigrated from Kvambæk in Åmotsdal in Seljord in 1879 as #15 - 16

Svenung from Seljord may be an interesting person, I am doubtful about his connection with Carl William Quanbeck married in 1916 to Sofie Andersen, their family consist of
Carl William Quanbeck, 27 Oct 1883 - died between 1920 and 1930
Sofie Anderson Quanbeck, 24 Jul 1889 - was a widow in 1930
Helen Quanbeck, 1914/15
Warren Quanbeck, 10 Jul 1917
Lawrence Quanbeck, 12 Dec 1918
Ruth Margaret Quanbeck 26 Dec 1920
Robert Vincent Quanbeck 25 Dec 1922

Hi,

You all have done a lot of work on this topic today. Carl Quanbeck the target is the son of Liv Svennungsdatter d.y. b. 1859 d. 1934 and her first husband Vetle Knutson Hovden, so the pastor Halvor S. Quanbeck I mentioned many posts ago is his uncle.

Halvor was one of the founders of the Oak Grove Lutheran School (at that time it was Lutheran Ladies' school) in Fargo, N.D. C. W. Quanbeck was a teacher at the school from 1908-1915, got into a little trouble and left.
From Pettibone’s city directory for Fargo 1911: Carl W. Quanbeck teacher at Oak Grove Lutheran Ladies Seminary, rooms at YMCA

Pettibone’s Fargo 1913 directory: Carl W. Quanbeck, prof. At Oak Grove & also listed as treasurer of Lokensgard-Quanbeck Co, resides at 114 9th Ave North Fargo

Pettibone’s Fargo 1915 directory: Carl W. Quanbeck, President of Fargo Publishing Co.; resides 115 S. Terrace, Fargo

From A Century in the Park: Oak Grove Lutheran School, a Journey of Faith by Hiram Drache published in 2006, page 34-35:

“…Unfortunately, at this meeting [meaning 13 Mar 1913] Fossum resigned as treasurer… Prof. C.W. Quanbeck was elected to replace him for which he was paid an additional $200 annually above the $800 he earned for his teaching duties….The good news of 1914 quickly faded when, at its March 11, 1915 meeting the board was asked to provide help to straighten out problems with the treasurer’s books. On May 27, C.W. Quanbeck resigned, and the board learned that he owed the school $2,500. The board was somewhat relieved when Mr. A.M. Anderson offered to collect from Quanbeck, or he agreed to make up the loss…”

From Some Ancestors of Sveinung Halvorson Kvambekk, A monograph by Alton Harold Quanbeck, 2001, lists the many descendants of Sveinung. Liv and Halvor were children from the second marriage of Sveinung to Haege Jakobsdatter. Sveinung is listed as having been born 3 Apr 1791 in Farberget, Bo, Telemark, Norway and dying on 30 Dec 1880 in Grandview Township, Lyons County, Minnesota. Liv is listed as having been born 4 Feb 1859 in Kvanbekk, Seljord, Telemark, Norway; died 1934. Liv was married twice, first to Vetle Knutson Hovden who was born 13 Aug 1845 in Telemark and who died 7 Sept 1907 in Winnepeg, Manitoba, Canada. They may have divorced as Liv is listed as having married a second time in 1893 to Hans Olson who had been born Sept 1855. No place of death is given for Liv nor date of her first marriage.

Liv had two children in her first marriage, William Quanbeck born 10 May 1881 and Carl Quanbeck born 27 Oct 1884. No death date for Carl or William is given. However Carl is listed as having married 2 Aug 1913 Sophie Anderson she born 24 July 1886 died 3 Jan 1966. The children are pretty much as you have already found: Helen Elizabeth Quanbeck, born 10 June 1914, died 19 Nov 1971 married Maurice S. Molvik on 11 Aug 1938 who was born 28 Dec 1913; Warren Anderson Quanbeck b. 10 July 1917 married Dagmar Dahl on 12 Sept 1942 she born 13 Oct 1914; Lawrence Allen Quanbeck b. 12 Dec 1918 married Lucille Elizabeth Manley 23 Mar 1938 she born 21 Apr 1919; Ruth Margaret Quanbeck b. 26 Dec 1921 married A. Sheldon Berg in April 1942.

Virtually all the Quanbecks you have mentioned as having been found in Nelson & other counties in North Dakota and in Minnesota are included in this listing. The other Carl Quanbeck who died in Minnesota in 1955 is a first cousin of Carl W. Quanbeck. It appears that though the farm in Norway had various spellings of the name, in America most adopted Quanbeck!

Hilsen,
Jackie M.
