I admit I'm not the most patient and best searcher but I've at least tried to find Sevald Martin Pettersen. His family name can also be Petersen or Pedersen. He was from the Hadsel area in northern Norway and born June 7, 1887 and emigrated to the USA and according to rumours lived his life in Oregon where he married and had at least one son maybe named Ronald. Any keyboard detectives who can help me?

Keyboard detectives, I like that!

When did Sevald come to US and where have you looked for him (Ancestry, familysearch,...) ?

This is him?

Dear veteran and honored keyboard detective! Spot on! It's him in the Norway census but as usual here I've no information at all when he went to America but based on his year of birth my best estimate is around 1900-5 He's on geni.com but it aint much help there either.
https://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000038570991824. It's time for a miracle now. Best regards from Kaiser

OMG! This was more than I bargained for. OK Sevald Pettersen just lived a humble life in Norway and died prematurely.

Yes his brother Theodor went to the US but he indeed returned to Norway and was buried at his birthplace Hadsel.

Obviously a lot of conflicting information. The interesting part is that Theodor at the immigration desk claimed he was going to visit his brother in law Mr. Simon Gustaff.

More confusing and I've to ask myself if Simon Gustaff was his brother in law Simon must have been married to Theodor's sister (!) and if that's the case Simons wife would be his sister and until today an unknown relative!

A few years ago a passed relative of mine which also was a skilled key board detective claimed we had relatives in the US descending from this family. I didn't take a note and forgot about if but as it seems today Ronald Bergiton Gustaff and his mother must have been from our family.

Can you say something about this? Above all I appreciate spending your valuable time to help me and I'm profoundly greatful. Best regards from Kaiser

Well good!

It isn't known for sure if the Sevald Martin Petterson in Moss is your guy or not. I've looked through the Moss by marriages for 1914, the Moss landsokn marriages for 1914 and the banns, lysning records from Moss prestegjeld for 1914 and have yet to find either of the indexed two marriages. You might want to take a look yourself to make sure about this. It appears that the marriage records from that era in Moss do contain information about birthplace and that might seal the deal.

The relationship might be more remote than you think. Perhaps Simon is an in-law of an in-law. He was a successful man in real estate along with a man named Julius G. Gustaff and might attract people to come. You might want to study Theodore's wife a bit to see if the Gustaffs are related to her.

What do you know about the parents of Sevald and Teodore?

The parents of Svald and Theodor was Mr. Petter/Peder Tørrisen born 1838 in today Sparbu in Steinkjer municipality but I've seen this place also called Wærdalen/Værdalen maybe linked to the curch parish at that time. Mother was Ingeborg Larsdatter which also had the names Hermundsli and Gåsvatn or both and was born in Rindal municipality in 1841.

Sevald died early and prematurely enough to be forgotten by the remaining relatives of today but one of them said Oregon and Ronald as his son but obviously Ronald had other parents and there is no doubt in my mind this is confusing information given by those who wasn't born at this time and remember only fractions of what the family brought to them and last but not least never had any genuine interest to know anything about this.

It's likely you've presented the right Sevald Martin. In a "bygdebok" for Hadsel where all farms and families are listed I can only find that Peder og Ingeborg only had 4 children and they are all accounted for except for Sevald Martin until today.

Best regards from Kaiser

Who will be interested in running down the facts on Sevald, if not you? This should be your responsibility to make certain that what has been found is he. If it is, he and Sara could have had a child or two and there might be other family out there. It might only come down to you. I hope you are interested.

A big thank you for all help to clarify the demise of Sevald Martin Pettersen. I've already sent a letter to the municipality where he presumably died to verify if it is the Sevald I'm looking for. I'll also try to contact the Gusaffs in Oregon to find the link between them and the brother of Sevald, Theodor and report back to you. Best regards from Kaiser
