The info which I have on Anton was that he was born in 1855, in Salberg s., Inderøy, Nord-Trondelag. The family story is that Anton lived in Montana. Peter Martin was born 6 Dec 1863, also in Salberg s., Inderø, etc. Peter lived in LaCrosse Wisconsin. Their parents were Peder Martin Olsen (born 28 Nov 1815 - Oppem farm, Vuku, Verdal, Nord-Trøndelag) and the mother is Marta (Andrea) Nielsdatter.
The record above would make Peter born in 1876, not in 1863 as his Parish register shows. So this is probably not the correct Peter. However, Anton's record above, shows him to be 25 years - that would make him born in 1855, so this could very well be him! Hooray - 50% isn't bad at all!!!

Thank you!

He emmigrated to the US in 1882, and soon married Martha Kjerstan Hellem, who emmigrated w/him and came from the same area. I have no information about which ship they arrived on. They settled in Enderlin, Ransom Co., North Dakota.
I'd very much appreciate any information!
Thank you!

[/quote]It appears you are talking about one of the 13 children of my great-grandfather's family who came over from Hylla starting in about 1865. My great-grandfather Lewis Edward(the name is often misspelled), and his twin brother Peter came to Crescoe, Iowa in about 1865. There were 13 children in the family, and all of the others followed later. One, Martin, is reported to have returned to Norway, reported in the 1890 or 1900 census. Peter and Lewis moved to Enderlin, North Dakota in 1880. Peter was married in Cresco, before they left. Lewis was shown there as unmarried, but was apparently married shortly before or after they moved, since my grandfather Lloyd was born in 1881. I think his mother died in childbirth or shortly after, and Lewis remarried and had 4 more children, Edward, Walter, Bjarne, and Elise. Lewis farmed near Sheldon, and Peter ran a dry goods store in Enderlin. Lewis, his wife, and the youngest child, Bjarne, all died within a week of each other from the flu, in 1920. Albert and Lloyd, children of the first marriage, had moved to homestead near Roseglen, ND, and are reported to have walked overland in winter, straight east to find the railroad tracks, immediately after getting the news of the deaths, and the farm and property were apparently sold immediately. I have the impression that most of the other children came to ND and scattered from there, prior to Lewis' death. Olaus was undoubtedly one of them, and I undoubtedly have his name in the geneological research I did at the National Archives in the early 1980s. I have located Austad families at various places around the U.S. and Canada, who are likely related. There are two more Austads in this country that I know of who have my first name, which I think highly unusual. I traveled as a National Bank Examiner duriing that period and usually looked at phone books whereever I traveled. I know there are many more who I have not found, and your posting is an excellent clue, undoubtedly related, because of the Hylla and Ransom County locations. I would be interested in any further information you might have. Bruce Austad
