They and their 4 young children emigrated to Minnesota from Drammen, Norway probably via Quebec and Chicago. We are looking for any information on their passage and travel dates. We think they left around 1882-1883. Shortly after arriving their names were altered from Holthe to Holt. Their youngest child, a baby, died at age 2 1/2 we think in the US. His name was probably Christ, but know nothing else about him.
Thanks! S Howell

They married in Strĝmsgodset church in Drammen August 27. 1876 as Hans Petter Johannesen and Laura Andrea Samuelsdatter, right page #3, they or Laura came from Langum in Skoger, 1865 cenus shows her parents and six siblings, but came from Eker parish next to Drammen (likely from farm Holte).

Hans Petter was from Holte in Bakke sub parish in Eker.

Johannes Petersen Holte was from Vendelborg in Hokksund in Haug parish in Eiker when he married Mari Hansdatter Hals on dec. 3. 1840 #48.
Hals is a farm in Fiskum parish in Ĝvre Eker municipallity, could be in Krekling country side, not sure, there are Hals farms in both Krekling and Fiskum, almost the same country side south of Vestfossen between the road marked 10 and Lake Eikeren in the map .
Wendelborg is on the east-northern part of Hokksund town across the river and is was a great saw mill there earlier.
Fiskum old churc was build about 1250

This must be Peter Johannesen in 1801, down page, age 14 at farm Hogsund, his father was "Saugmester" at the saw mill and married before, now for the 2. time to Kirsti Larsdatter age 54, she was perhaps not Petter´s mother.

Peters mother was Live Arnesdatter, he was born on Dynge Mai 3. christened Mai 13. 1787, right page central.
Johannes Petersen and Live Arnesdatter Dynge Bap. Peter "fĝd den 3de Mai" born mai 3. numbered 4.
When Peters son Johannes was christened 1815 two of the godparents were from Dynge.

As fare as I can see both Johannes Petersen and Live Arnesdatter was from farm Skotselv, a big farm or a sawmill with 200 people living there. The confirmation on both was carried out by priest Lorentz Budde on April 11. 1779, Peter age 17 and Live age 16, left page as #26 & 23

Live Arnesdatter died between 1787 and 1791.
Widower Johannes Petersen Wendelborg married widow Kirsti Larsdatter in Haug church Nov. 30. 1791 (see 1801 census from farm Hogsund abowe).

The church records between 1753-64 don´t seems to exist (could be damaged or destroyed) so for that reason it will be very difficult to find Johannes and Lives parents until the probate registers will be online in a few years.
Johannes was born about 1760 and Live about a year later.

The only left from farm Wendelborg to my knowledge is Wendelborg road about 1/4 of a mile from the waterfall Hellefossen where the saw mills were located.
Enter this map, write: vendelborggata hokksund, press SĜK and watch the area.
Zoom out and watch Hellefossen painted 1838 by J.C. Dahl and watch the saw mill industries, Wendelborg is via the small valley behind the red roofed house in front.

One of the godparents to Mari Hansdatter was from Fosen, means waterfall, so it could be one of this houses.
In the waterfall you can see woven baskets for catching Salomon. Hellefossen is one of the best fishing places for Salomon in Norway
About 1890 Hellefossen paper mill was build and is still producing paper, watch the buildings in the background and the small valley on the right side of the waterfall leading to Wendelborg.

The most well-known Holte in Norway is from Hokksund.

Your help has been so wonderful and so appreciated! Thanks again!

We're now looking for the passenger list for the following:
SS Island. There were 347 passengers and the voyage took 12.5 days. They left Norway on August 23rd, 1883 and arrived New York on September 6th, 1883.

We're also looking for more information on Hans Petter Johanneson's 5 siblings besides their names and ages on the 1865 census. Besides Elen, did any of the others, for instance, leave Norway? Did any of his sisters marry?

We're also wondering about Laura Andrea Samuelsdatter's siblings. Laura kept in regular communication with Anne and Marthine until her death, but we don't know anything about the others.

Shari
