Looking for a passenger list and information for Lewis E "Lars" Lund born about 1855 and emigrated from Norway to Iowa, USA in about 1868. Where do I start?

Lars came from Lund in Sjernarøy sub parish in Nedstrand parish in Rogaland county.
Sjernarøy is an island south of Nedstrand in Buknafjorden north of Stavanger town.

From the 1865 census.
Annik Johannesdatter e (widow) age 63 "Føderaadskone" was Siri Larsdatters mother, Annik Larsdatter age 31 and Laurendze Larsdatter age 23, both unmaried, were Siris sisters.

The parents and 5 children emigrated April 4. 1868, right page #1-7

Lars was born Mai 21, christened June 5. 1854 in Sjernarøy church, left page #10, her is a clearer page, it shows the godparents, both grandmother Annik J. (Johannesdatter) Lund and aunt Annik L. (Larsdatter) Lund #10

William's question was HOW to find? and WHERE to start? Unfortunately that hasn't been addressed.

To start let's discuss leaving Norway. There were quite a number of different ports that persons could have departed from so some information about WHERE they had resided in Norway would be vital to trying to limit the search. The emigration information is separated by the various ports and not aggregated into one large list for all of Norway -- just like the immigration and passenger arrival information in the US and Canada is separate for each port of arrival.

To find WHERE "Lewis [Lars] E Lund" resided and/or was born is helped greatly because he left about 1868 and therefore probably still lived in Norway for the 1865 Norwegian census. The birth estimate of "about 1855" is also information vital to that search. Lund is probably a farm name or part of the original farm name where he was born or later resided.
For this seach I would choose to search the 1865 Norwegian census database available through the Norwegian Historical Data Centre (NHDC) at http://www.rhd.uit.no/indexeng.html
You can search the 1865 nationwide and use all the clues you had - first name, first letter of patronymic name, farm name (Easy version) or first name, first letter of patronymic name, and approximate birthyear (Advanced version).. Instructions for using those databases versions are available on the website -- hint -- % is the wildcard character to use for those database searches.

One of the most likely two possible matches from the Easy version search is the one others have listed above. There is one other that you might choose to explore if the first does not prove to match your "Lewis E Lund". But the finds by others above seem very good.
First name=Lars
first letter of patronymic/Surname=E
Farm name=Lund
That one lives in Nedstrand, Rogaland pretty close to the city of Stavanger and that was a major port of departure so it would make good sense to check the emigration registers for that port city as available on the Digitalarkivet website.

Confusing yet? Probably. There are those of us that use these databases so frequently it becomes difficult to go back and explain the detailed steps we took. You can study how to use the many many databases on the Digitalrkivet by studying a website that someone posted for that exact purpose.

Tips on Using the Digitalarkivet

Great information about Norwegian naming practices, using Norwegian censuses, church records, bygdeboks, etc.

William, if you need more help to get started on HOW TO DO IT YOURSELF please ask. Hopefully someone will address it.

You are right Hopkins, William asked how can I find a passenger list. Sorry for overlooking that.

Its many ways to find a person or a farm, this time I started to seek for farms named Lund in Oluf Rygh and found 380 farms consisting Lund, so instead I entered Google and Lars E. Lund and tried some different spellings for E. as I assumed it was the first letter his fathers first name, traditional naming, and finally ended on ( "Lars Eliasen" passenger) and found out that he emigrated from Stavanger in 1882 on ship Hiram, last column tells: "VAR 14 ÅR GAMMEL DA HAN UTVANDRET" Age 14 when he emigrated, and his father Elias place of living was Stjernarøy/Sjernarøy.

Digitalarkivet has the emigration records from Stavanger and a search there gave me Lars Lund and the family coming from Sjernarøy in 1882.

The records for Sjernarøy in Nedstrand (Nærstrand)parish if you want to make look ups for yourself.

The censuses for Nærstrand

God luck
