My grandfather, Juul Hagbart Knutsen, a plumber by trade, was either born in March 1877 in Halden or March 1879 in Kristiania. He married my grandmother, Gunda Johanne Bjorkman and they settled eventually in Kristiania. They had many children: Lillian, my mother, Randi, Mary, Gunvor, Aase, Sverre, Eugen, Georg. I have not been able to find out who his parents and siblings are. It's a possibility that his father may have gone by the name of Knute Olsen. I am nearing the end of my research on my family and am missing this information.

Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Gundas baptismal record is #6
she was born Jan 25 and bapt Febr 26 1882. Her parents were Carl Maurits Bjørkman, Ships carpenter and Anne Katrine Johannesdatter.
A Juul P. Knutsen is recorded in Halden (Fredrikshald) in 1900
he was a plumber and born 1879 in Kristiania.
Gunda was also in Halden in 1900
There is a lot of parishes in Kristiania, could you indicate when Lillian was born and where?
Also if you know the date for Juul and Gundas marriage it would be a good help.

Thank you, everyone. I really don't know where my mother was born but her birthday was December 12, 1914. Her sister, Gunvor was born in 1906. I know they lived at Schubelersgate when she was growing up in Oslo. Gunda was a foster child to someone, as was her sister, Marie Bjorkman who came to the US and settled in Hamilton and married Adolph Hengst, a German butcher.

I have very little information about Juul Knutsen, however. I don't know his parents' names or his siblings.

Mange takk. Mary

Can anyone translate the witnesses in Gunvor's baptism record? I think one is Marie Bjorkman (tante Maria) and Edward Bjorkman but I'm not sure of others. Marie and Edward were brother and sister to Gunda. I don't know the others.

Does this mean that my mother may also have been baptized there?

The witnesses are: Kone (wife) Katrine Amundsen, Pige (maiden) Marie Bjørkman, Rørleggerl. (plumber apprentice) Edward Bjørkman, Faderen (the father)
I have looked for your mother, but no hit yet.
Maria Bjørkmans baptismal record is (female) #1
she "returned" to Amerika in Oct. 2 1914, (just before your mother was born) see #235374

Sverre Victor was born Oct 31 1908, see #31
Witnesses: Enken (the widow) Katrine Amundsen, Bryggearbeider (longshoreman) Josef Molkesrød og (and) Forældrene (the parents)
Since Josef Molkesrød was working for Saugbrugsforeningen, it is reasonable that Juel Hagbart Knutsen also worked there. The factory was restructured 1905-1908, just the time when Juel was there. See Saugbrugs
Augen Vilhelm was born Oct 15 1904, see #145
Family living in Elvegaden.

Oh, blessings to all of you.

Is there a record somewhere of an illegitimate child born to Marie Bjorkman? Her grandchildren live in town and it would be nice to connect them to other family members if there are any. I am curious, too, if what my mother and grandmother told me. Her name might have been Kitty.

Kristiania/Oslo is a difficult area to search for birth in 1914.
When did your mother emigrate?

Mom came to America in September 1938. My father, Henry Brustad paid her way and sponsored her. She came to Hamilton, NY.

I don't have much more to add at this moment.

No street by that name in Oslo, I think that the street should be Schleppegrellsgate, used to belong to the Paulus parish, but I have not found them there.

No, it's that street. Perhaps I spelled it wrong: Shublersgate? I have it on a map sent to me by another lister on another site.

I am wrong, you are right, sorry for the mistake. Street name is Schubelersgate.
Found the confirmation record for Eugen Vilhelm in the Kampen parish, Dec 7 1919, see #25
the family was living at Schublersgt. 2.
Gunvor Vilhelmine Katrine was confirmed Dec 4 1921, see #156
the family was still at Schublersgt. 2.
Randi Sonja was baptized Febr 13 1919, born March 14 1916, see #24
it is listed that the parents married in 1902 and had 8 children, all of them living.
Georg was born March 11 1911, see #80
the family was then living at Haakonsgt. 18.
Aase Marie born Aug 31 1913, bapt March 29 1914, see #41
the family was still living at Haakonsgt. 18.
Mary Laila was born Marc 3 1917 and baptized together with Randi Sonja March 5 1919, see #16 & 17
it is listed that the mother informed that they were marrie April 20 1901 and had 9 children, all living.
I may have overlooked Lillian and the 9th child (if that was a right count!) somewhere along the line, too bad.
