I was wondering whether you can enlighten me on the vessels which were used in the late 1800s for the purpose of whaling. I know that our grandfather worked on vessels, Brig Galathea, Schooner Oskar, Ship Beda so anything you can assist me with further would be greatly appreciated. Furthermore, is there anywhere that I can obtain the information which can confirm the names of the vessels on which he worked and also if any of these vessels went to South Africa and when. Our Grandfather, Harry Enstrom was actually Swedish and some of the vessels which he worked on left from Landskrona. Anything you can do to assist would be greatly appreciated. Rose
It looks like Oskar was a whaling ship owened by Alf Monsen from Tønsberg town, Vestfold County: Oskar is mentioned about 3 inch. down after the drawing of the house starts with; " Tidlig på året 1890" Early 1890 Alf Monsen´s SS Oskar was hired to remove a house and equipment from two stations (Whaling stations?) from Syltefjord to Dyrefjord on the west coast of Island. When the job was done the whaling could start early in the summer.
I find a whaling ship Beda used on a voyage in the Artic 1885.
