Parents were Daniel Danielson Vermunden (born 1818)and Kari Sorensdtr Peistorpmoen.(1810 born)

Daniel Danielson (Tangen) born Sept 1 1845 married Oct 27/1876 Hannah Karlsdatr( born April 20/1858)

Only info I know are their children's names and they came to Minnesota eventually to the Cormorant area where Daniel and Hannah are buried.

Daniel was from Kongsvinger??spelling and I don't know when they came to America or which ship. Very curious..... I know even less about Hannah except she died in 1900 from childbirth.

His son Hjalmer was my Grandfather.
Could use some help- Brenda

Hard to find the ship they left with, when about was it?
Dep. port was likley Oslo.
Here is some add. information, perhaps some watching this can help you.

Kari was most likeley from Peistorpmoen in Aasnes/Åsnes parish in Hedmark County. Kongsvinger is a town in the same County

Could be her brother Anders Sørensen on Peistorpmoen in 1865.

This is Daniel Danielsen age 21, Lumber man, on Tangen in Aasnes parish 1865 born to Daniel Danielsen from Sweden, Cottager with land, Carpenter, and Kari Sørensdatter. Daniel had a brother Martin. Thomas was a renter.

This must be Hanna Karlsdatter on Vermundsdammen born to Karl Henriksen, Cottager with land, rafting man (timber in the river) and Karen Kristiansdatter, Hannah had four siblings, Anne Marie Knudsdatter age 71, widow, was Karen Kristiansdatter´s mother.

Vermunden is a lake in Åsnes at the Swedish border, dam means pond so Vermundsdammen is located to the eastern part of the lake where the river start.

When they married on Oct. 29. 1876 in Åsnes church at lake Vermundsjøen in Finnskog Hanna lived on Tangen, birth place Dammen (Vermundsdammen,The Pond) and Daniel was a Carpenter from Tangen.

This area is called Finnskogen

I believe Hanna with two children left Oslo May 30 1883, see #69784-86
The son Didrik was born Sept 1 1878, see #36
Bapt. record for the daughter Kaija (said to be 10 months old in May 1883) is
#23 she was born June 24 1881!
Why the children has been given the last name Karlsen is a mystery to me. Have not found the emigration records for Daniel Danielsen so far - he probably left earlier than 1883. You do know for certain that he came to the US?
When and where was Hjalmar born?

Hanna b.1858, Diderik b.1879 and Kaija (transcribed Haija) b. 1882 Carlsen arrived New York on the S/S Thingvalla on June 21st 1883.

Census-1900 for Soler Township, Roseau county, Minnesota:
Danil D Tangen, born 1845, imm 1883
Hanna Tangen, born 1858, imm 1883
Children:
Didrick Tangen, born 1878, imm 1883
Carrie Tangen, born 1881, imm 1883
Hjalmar Tangen, born 1888 in Minnesota
Delphin Tangen, born 1891 in Minnesota
Sigvald Tangen, born 1893 in Minnesota
Albin Tangen, born 1895 in Minnesota
Hilda E Tangen, born 1899 in Minnesota

There is also one Carl Tangen, born 1884 in Minnesota, living in the same township. No parents are listed for him, but he could be a son of Daniel & Hanna. Relation To Head of House for Carl is "Grandson", so he is obviously living with his grandparents. If he is a son of Daniel & Hanna, his gp's would be either:
1) Daniel Danielson Vermunden born 1818
2) Kari Sorensdtr Peistorpmoen born 1810
3) Carl Henriksen Wermund born 1835
4) Karen Kristiansdatter Bjertnes born 1833

None of them can be found in Soler 1900...

There are btw 72 people born in Norway living in Soler Township in 1900. 259 people where living in Soler at that time.

Hi,

Seems likely that Carl (from 1900 census) is in the family as a Karel D. Tangen 1884-1965 is buried next to Albin Danielson and Hannah Carlson Tangen in the Oiland Lutheran church cemetery in Roseau County, Minnesota.

Interesting.
Anyone with a subscription at ancestry.com who could look up who is Head of Household in the house where Carl Tangen is living? See census-1900 for Soler Township, Roseau county, Minnesota.

Head of household's given name is largely blocked by a large black stain -- probably from tape put on the page long ago.
The man's name starts with the letters Da..... born Sept 1845 Norway.

Not from Ancestry.com -- but a scan of the original page should be just as good.

Ok, thanks.
So I assume he lives with his parents and other siblings then....? Strange that his parents are not listed in the index, as with the other children.

Hi,

Thanks for the mention of the familysearch for this family. This underlines a basic point in research, see & judge the "original" source if at all possible.

Please note that Hanna is listed as the mother of 10 children and only 8 are living as of June 1900. She is pregnant with the 11th child.

Hi Brenda,

I'm typing, for publication, a transcription of the heastone readings of Roseau County. Oiland Lutheran church (Soler Township, Roseau County, Minnesota) headstone readings taken by the late Milt Sather in Sept 1990. The family transcriptions are:

Karel D. Tangen 29 July 1884-12 Feb 1965
Albin Danielson 1895-1913 (transcriber's note: tombstone says Danielson, Oiland death records Albin Tangen)
Hannah Carlson (Tangen) Apr 20, 1858-Oct 13, 1900

In the Minnesota death index online:
DANIELSON, ALBIN
Date of Birth: na
Place of Birth: na
Mother Maiden Name: na
certid# 1913-MN-020453
Date of Death: 25 Dec 1913
County of Death: HENNEPIN

You could buy the death certificate to see if a buggy accident is mentioned. www.mnhs.org

Since you have an exact date of death for these three people you might also buy an obituary search at the Roseau County Historical Society. Their web address for information:

www.roseaucohistoricalsociety.org/resources.html" target="_blank">http://www.roseaucohistoricalsociety.org/resources.html

It might be worthwhile to get some of these documents to extinguish any remaining doubts you have about whether these folks are in or are out of the family.

Here is the web address for the Becker County Historical Society website. They have a cemetery search engine and Cormorant Lutheran's listings are included.

www.beckercountyhistory.org/" target="_blank">http://www.beckercountyhistory.org/

Good Luck,
Jackie M.

I am guessing then the stone over with Daniel at Cormorant is likely just a stone and not a grave. The dates you have are correct as I know Hannah supposedly died in childbirth in 1900. Thanks for th einfo, I will likely get those records purchased too! I was told that Daniel and Karel were the only ones that kept the Tangen name and Hannah of course. The others went to Danielson. I will visit that cemetery this summer if I can locate it. I am from Canada.
