Emigration from Trondheim list their destination as Willmar city in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota.

How did you find that?? That's great .

Why aren't they on any census returns in America??. I can't find them anywhere

Also, Could you possibly find my grandfather Harald Waldemar Hansen (his mother became an Edwards). who left Bergen I think in 1913 to travel to Swansea. I've never been able to find details of his journey.

Thanks for your help it is much appreciated.

Rob.

If' you're refering to the database "Emigrants from Bergen 1874-1930", that database does not contain much info about people emigrating to England.
The database contain 110228 names, but almost all them are headed for America.

Last question - how do you get from Ibestad to Wales by boat around 1913. Do you go via Trondheim, Bergen Stavanger. Do you go direct??

Are there any databases for voyages going to England from Norway??

Try as I might my grandfather is Mr. Mystery.

I would say Trondheim, or possibly Oslo.

Bergen or Stavanger is definitively a detour (over the mountains) if you leave from Ibestad.

By 1913, Bergen, Trondheim and Oslo was connected by railroad though, but coming from Ibestad in the North of Norway, he had to take the boat (most likely) to Trondheim, then the train down to Oslo, before he could head west to Bergen.

So if you want to rank the possible cities of emigration, I would say:
1. Trondheim
2. Oslo
3. Bergen
4. Stavanger.

That is; if he was coming directly from Ibestad. He could have worked in Bergen prior to the emigration, which would make things different...

This is a strange situiation. Technically speaking Harald Waldemar was born in Swansea 1904, was taken to Norway as a baby then returned with his mother about 1913. He therefore neither emmigrated from Wales or Norway. He simply moved.

The outward journey was almost certainly undertaken by his uncle Jens Mikkelsen born 1865 Ibestad who took him o Norway. His mother had remarried David Edwards in 1910 after Harald's father's accident. It wold be so good to trace one of thes journeys can you find one??
