I read the Klemmetsrud History, Søvde is indeed an interseting farm Ray. In the middleage Søvde was "Krongods" owned by the crown, the king. I have documents showing that after the black plague, 1380, the farm or parts of it was owned by noble families until 1600. Perhaps you already know all this, if not I can bring up the owners and the document from 1380 for you later today?

Hi Ray.
Some information and explonations of some of the words.
Søvde was "Krongods" the crowns property. The king from 1343-80 was Håkon 6. The king never lived there, it looks like he owned a part in Søvde which was given to the Guvernor in Sogn county as a salary. "Laupsbol" was an old measurement for land, depending on how big the farm was, one laupsbol was valued to 60 pounds of butter. The part in Søvde was 40 laupsbol, the part in Urnes (the property surrounding Urnes stave church, see Johns pages) was 128 Laupsbol, almost the whole farm including the church I assume. Søvde is coming from Sjoda, syde; boiling /bubbling: spring water. Around 1380 widower, Knight and Coucil of the realm Nikulas Sveinsson Galle, Brunla manor, Vestfold county, eastern Norway, married Ingeborg Erlingsdatter, there is some disagreement if this is the correct Ingeborg, there are two Ingeborg Erlingsdatter from the upper nobility who fit in the context.
The Krummedige family came came northern Germany, Holstein, former Danish land. When a war between Denmark and Germany broke out cocerning this land the Krummedige family choosed wrong side and had to move to Denmark, from there they came to Norway.
Source; about 2,5 inches down here only tells Søvde was a Manor house, most sources tells Søvde before that was "Krongods". The king paid his Govenors/Lendermenn (salary) with parts in farms hi had recieved as gifts.
Søvde before Syver Ørjesen. Among all the huge presents County Governor Elling Einarsen Hildegaard from Bergen gave his daughter when she married in 1380 was a dowry on 12 "Laupsbol" in Søvde (Saude) Lyster in Sogn. The seals were issued by Jon Aslaksen and Sigurd Skrypar.
Around 1450 Ingeborgs part was taken ower by Hartvig Krummedige. Heir to Krummediges part in Søvde was Harvig Krummediges son Henrik´s son-in-law, Danish knight and major of the palace Eske Bille 1480- Feb. 9. 1552 (only Norwegian link on him).
This document written on Bergenhus Fortress 1529 tells: Esge Bilde sends a recommendation to his father-in-law Mr Henrik Krummedige (Hartvig Krummediges son) on behalf of Tord Benkestokk for assistance by Duke Christian in Denmark.
Early 1600 Erling Einarson´s part in Søvde was owned by Danish nobleman Christopher Gjøe 1584-1652.
The last partowner before Christopher Trondsen 1550-1622 bought Søvde was Tøri Anfindsdatter from Bergen.
