Eibache,
Yes after 1900 if possible, Jorg's imigration to United States, marriage details of Jorg and Signe, and any information on their children, Jorg was the brother of my wife's grandfather and we believe there are relations of this line still living in United States. Thanks again for any help.

Alan.

In 1942 a Jorg H Hansen born 8th of August 1885 in Norway registered for the U.S. World War II Draft Registration. He listed himself as living at 113 Eltingville Blvd, Eltingville, New York.. He listed his wife as Signe Hansen and his place of employment as Consolidated Edison of New York. The card which I found on Ancestry.com lists him as 5'7", 185 lbs, blue eyes, red hair and light complexion.

Would it be possible that your Jorg Hansen would have worked on a ship as a second mate. If so I would direct you to some records of a Jorg H Hansen working out of San Francisco in 1920 on the ship Tascalusa.

lyndal40,

Thanks for that information, is helping to fill in the missing years. (The son of his brother Andreas, my wife's father also was about the same height and had red hair). He could have worked as a 2nd or 1st mate, where would I go to trace this record on the Tascalusa. Once again thanks. It may lead to the marriage we are searching for.

Searching ancestry.com to which I have a subscription turns up five references to Jorg H Hansen
The first one to the WW II Draft Registration ref above
One to a US Naturalizatin Record from 1918, which references the place as Northern California, probablly San Francisico.
Three references to California Passenger and Crew Lists
The three references are to voyages during 1920 from China to San Francisco on the Tascalusa. Interesting Jorg H Hansen is listed as a 2nd mate and is described as 34 ie born in 1886 and as 5"7 " tall and weight of 190 lbs. Very similar to the description in the World war II Draft Registration.
My concern had been that being a seaman in San Francisco and working for Con Ed in New York seems to be a long ways apart.

lyndal40,

We do know he was a seaman. Do not know when he left Norway or how, also no in between years from 1900 until he turns up married in New York. Chances are he did work on ships also being 1942 when he worked for Con Ed in NY, what did he do in the mean time? Also is there anyway we can find out what happened to Doris & Eleonore?

The Ancestry.com website has the following listing for California Passenger and Crew List 1893-1957
Jorg H Hansen arrived from Hong Kong August 1920 on Tascalusa
Jorg Hansen arrived from Shanghai June 1919 on Tascalusa
Jorg Hansen arrived from Balboa Panama Mar 1919 on La Primara
Jorg H Hansen arrived from Hong Kong Mar 1920 on Tascalusa
Jorg H Hansen arrived from Shanghai June 1920 on Tascalusa
Jorg Henry Hansen arrived from San Francisco May 1021 on Algonquin
Jorg Henry Hansen arrived from Hong Kong Sep 1919 on Tasclusa
Jorg Henry Hansen arrived from Shanghai Dec 1919 on Tascalusa
All of the records list Jorg as being of Norwegian birth born either in 1885 or 1886 and 5'7" tall and 190 to 200 lbs. Very close to the description of George Hansen in the 1930 Census.

I found also in Ancestry.com under New York Passenger lists 1820 - 1957 the following passenger

Jørgen Hansen on the passenger list for the S/S Bergenfjords sailing from Christiana, Norway on Febuary 7, 1918.

He is listed as being 32 years 4 months old, and single. His occupation is listed as Ship-captain, Nationality as Norway and last permanent residence as Tønsberg

The age does not quite match the August 1885 birth you have for Jorg Hansen.

Ship-captain Jørg Henry Hansen from Tønsberg, born 08 Aug 1885, going to New York on April 11th, 1918 on the SS Bergensfjord.

#8, Jörgen Hansen arrived New York on April 28th, 1918 on the S/S Bergensfjord.

His final destination reads Anjer, Java. Must be in today's Indonesia.

Examining the Feb 18, 1918 manifest with jwiborg informatin in mind I now understand why there is a line through the entry for Jørgen Hansen. He must have been scheduled on this ship for an earlier date, but for some reason did not travel on the earlier date but did travel on the April voyage.

Alan, In order to find any further information about the two childeren Doris or Eleonore Hansen, more information would be useful. You mention that Doris was alive in 1952 and had been in the Army Cadet Nurse Corp in 1944. Was she ever married and if so do you know what her married name was. The same question applies to Eleonore, was she ever married and if so what was her married name.

To every one thanks so much for the information supplied. To lyndal40, unfortunately we have no other information on Doris or Eleonore, what we have has been from family letters. We asume there are descendants, we do not know, my wife would like to contact them if any are found.
Thanks again.
Alan.
