The wedding record for Kristen Kristensen and Guro Nilsdatter from 1733 in Grindem (Grindheim) church from 1724, hard to read, abbreviation, bad ink.

Left margin you´ll see Grindem and Støle.
Next column after Grindem you will see the date for the wedding; D: 4te Past Trinit (Dominica 4 past Trinitates) 4. Sunday after Whitsun; June 28.

Further down here last two lines before Støle you will read:
Christen Christensen og (and) Gurro Nielsdatter

I am sorry to hear that, they must have left a lot of information on the ancestors in Norway, all your informaton correspond.

The church books and 1801 censuses for Etne if you want to do look ups, change census by click on same areas on top line.

When using the censuses, start with one or two letters too see how a name is spelled, always use contains. As for given name Osmund/Aasmund, he was spelled Usmund; by using contains mund it was was how I was able to find him.

When was your g.grandfather born? Try to look for him, if its dificult first time you will get help here.

I have been working with Stødle from the middelage and earlier some years ago, this is my first wisit to the 1700-1800 Stødle, interesting.

Some information from Støle and Gjerde from the Saga before I continue.

Bjørn from Støle was a handpicked soldier on the big ship Ormen Lange in the battle of Svolder in the year 1000. Ormen consited of 34 rooms, Bjørn fought in "Forrommet", the room on front of the mast.

In 1030 Lendmann "County governor" Erlend from Gjerde turned against the king and partissipated in the uprising army in the Battle of Stiklestad against King Olav II Haraldson of Norway. Erlend fall in the battle.
Around I820-30 a Runic stone was found in the stone fence at Gjerde church, on one of the sides it´s engraved: Erlend made this Runes after (to honor) Olve (his) father. The stone is dated to about 1100 so it´s a younger, unknown Erlend Gjerde.

1115 Erlend´s Ggrandson Erling Kyrpinga-Ormsson Skakke was born on Stødle,he fall on Kalvskinnet, the garden at Nidarosdomen in Trondheim in the civil war (1140-1240) against King Sverre Sigurdsson on June 19. 1179.

Erlings Skakke´s son Magnus Erlingsson was born on Støle 1151, king of Norway from 1161, Magnus fall against king Sverre at the battle of Fimreite June 15. 1184.

The old part of Stødle chuch was Erling Skakkes private chapel.

No wonder one can be cofused with so many Thor, Thorsen and Thorsdatter, it´s easy to get lost.

I don´t know what happend to Thor Thorsen born 1826, it was his brother John Thorsen Hatland born 1830 on Gjerde who married Christi Baardsdatter Vaagen from Ølen.

First born son Thor Johnsen was born on Gjerde 1857, next child was a daughter, Elisabeth Christine Johnsdatter born on Vaagen in Ølen to John Thorsen Vaagen and Christi Baardsdatter Jan. 26, baptised Feb. 5. 1860 #8.

Next child was a boy, John born on Hetland in Ølen Jan. 26, baptised Feb. 9. 1862, parents John Thorsen Hetland and Christi Baardsdater #11 (Brita Serine born 1862 not found).

Lastborn child was Baard Johnsen born on Vaagen in Ølen April 13, baptised April 23. 1865, parents John Thorsen Vaagen and Christi Baardsdatter #20

Kåre, I read the parents as John Torrisen (Thorsen) Hetland and Christi Baardsdatter.

I saw that, it was a wrongspelling from me, easy to get lost.
I didn´t reach to correct it before you answered.

I think it´s written Torresen Hetland instead of Torsen Hetland, not unusual, the names was spelled how they spoke.
I have seen Torsen, Thorsen, Thoresen and Torresen used for the same person, very common.

I didn´t notice your reply Einar, Sorry.

Emigration record from Fjelberg/Ølen April 24. 1865 for "Ægtefolkene" Married couple John Thorsen Vaagen born in Etne and Kristi Bardsdatter age 30 and three children, Elisabeth Kristine, Britta Serine and Baard, dest Nordamerica, right page #21-26.

Confusing, see my former posting:
Britta Serine is mentioned born on the same day as John;
Jan 26. 1862.
Was it a wrongspelling, should John have been Britta Serine or contrary ? Where is oldest son Thor Johnsen born on Gjerde 1857. Did he stay, died young or was he forgotten inthe emigration record.

Do you have any ide Deb.

Christine Baardsdatter´s parents married Mai 1853 (no date) in Fjelberg, Ølen, top left page #1
Baar Erichsen "Gaardbruger" Farmer from Strandvaagen age 20,5 and Christie ThoresDatter from Huustvedt age 30.
Fathers: Eric and Thor.

Nice name Strandvaagen, Beach bay, located to the seaside.
