Could I get some help with spelling theses names?
I have seen Bertinus, Bertheninus, Bertinius, Berternus Bertinia. And Foletta, Tallate, Tellete for his wife. They were born in Norway 1864/65 and emigrated in 1883.
What would the most common spelling be for these two?

Thank You

Would be nice if you can supply some more info, where they were born, last name etc.
Checking the parish records will give the best result., need more info to do that.

There are many different variations for the two names, here are the most common spellings:

Berthinejus, Bertines, Bertinius, Bertinnius, Bertinus, Berthinnius, Berthinus.

Talete, Tallette, Tallethe, Taletta, Talette, Taletthe, Thalete, Thalethe, Thalette, Thaletta.

I have two interesting candidates from the 1865 census, both from the same parish, Lunde in Rogaland county:

Bertinius Helgesen age 5 on farm Skailand (actually he was born 1864) and Talette Askildsdatter age 2 (born 1864) on farm Birkemo

parish record says Helge Johannesen & Berthe Kristensdatter - knitpicking?
Talettes baptismal record is #20

Wow! I received a lot more than I asked for.
Thank you all for the info. They look to be the family I asked about.
On Talette's death certificate it lists her father as Askel Tenneson and mother as Anna. and Talette's birthday as 6 May 1864 (Maybe wrong?)
I don't have any other dates or places for Bertinius. On his death certificate it says born 1874 and I know it's wrong because they were the same age as listed in several US censuses. Should be 1864. (typo)
I wonder if someone could find a marriage record for them and an emigration record for Talette. I'm thinking maybe they were married in Norway and emigrated together?
They were from the Comorant, Becker Co., Minnesota area.
Thanks again
Dennis

Askel Tenneson is definately an american way of speaking/writing Askild Tønnesen, and yes her mother was Anna Ellingsdatter - both parents as written in the baptismal record refered to earlier. Talette was born May 2 1864 and baptized May 16 same year.
Talette, her parents and sibling in 1865
Talettes parents were married July 14 1849, see #6

The 1900 census shows that they married about 1887.

Hi Jan Peter,
Thanks for the info.
Where did you find the 1900 and 1910 Becker censuses? All I could find was 1895, 1905 and 1920 censuses in ancestry.com. I was able to save the 1900 census from your message. Could you point the way to the 1910 census so I can save it to file?

Thanks, Dennis

his parents were Tønnes Olsen and Ingebor Askildsdatter.
Anna Ellingsdatter was born April 16 1829 and baptized April 20, see #6
her parents were Elling Jacobsen and Kari Gundleksdatter.

Did you search using the indexed names?

1900: Burtemar Halgeson
1910: Burtine Halgeson

Hi Jan Peter,
Sure, they come right up when searched for the transcribed name. I think Ancestry should have found them long before the hundreds of other names that came up.
But, thank you very much for all the info.

Hi, this topic went well.

We only miss Talette´s emigration record now, remember not all were recorded.

The confirmation records for Bertinius Helgesen, Oct. 5. 1870 and Talette Askildsdatter, Oct. 13. 1878 are recorded on the same page, she lived on Birkemoe, Bertinius on the same farm he was born on, Skailand, see # 13 & 2

Both the baptism and confirmation ceremonies were taken place in Lund church (Heskestad sub parish where Bertinius and Talette were born didn´t got a church before 1904)

Lund municipality and Heskestad sub parish south-east at lake Lundevann in Rogaland County, south-west in Norway,
see here

Information and photos from Lund

Question: Is farm Birkemo same as Birkemon? As for Askil #2 and Anna #6. They were born on same farm? What is definition of "farm" as in "Birkemo"?
