Again: thank you so very much. It seems, however, that I have to go on looking for Kari Nilsdaughter in additional sources here in Norway. She really seems to have vaporized into thin air - strange!

I found a Kari Christopherdatter born Sept. 1860, confirmation on Mai 30. 1875, but she was from Landerud in Røen sub parish in Vestre Slidre.

Hello.
I looked into the Emigrantprotokoller and found the Kari C. Tuff that you mentioned in your answer to me. The C confuses me a bit as well. I also looked into the churchbook for Vestre Slidre for 1859, when "my" Kari was born. Her mother is also from the subparish in Røen - that's where my family is from, and in the church-book the baby's mother is mentioned as Barbro Johnsdaughter Tuff. The farm is still named as Tuv (today's spelling). It also looks ok with Kari being 21 when emigrating in 1880. It COULD be her I am looking for.

Hi Anne,

Here is something interesting from the online South Dakota birth records index. There were four children in the database with the last name Rund each with Kari Nelson as the mother. It might be something or it might be nothing. But perhaps Lynda with the Ancestry can look at the census listings for the family in 1900...

Jackie M.

Eddy Rund
File Date: 05/08/1943
Sex: Male
Birth Date: 09/10/1897
City/County: HAMLIN
Mother's Name: KARI NELSON
Father's Name: TRULS RUND

1. RUND,EDDIE M 09/10/1897 HAMLIN
2. RUND,GILBERT M 04/15/1896 HAMLIN
3. RUND,THILDA F 09/06/1898 HAMLIN
4. RUND,LILLIE F 05/26/1902 HAMLIN

Well, less proming now but still interesting...

The 1910 and 1920 census indicated Kari/Carrie was born in Iowa about 1863 and married abt 1883.
The 1910 indicated she had 10 children of which 9 we living at the time of the census.

The 1900 Census has the Month/Year of birth included. It's not 100% but its worked for me in the past.
I looked for Carrie or Kari born Mar 1859 in Norway.
I made the immigration search 1881 +/- 5 years. (shown in () below)

  • Kari Kallevig Johannes Arctander, Kandiyohi, Minnesota Mar 1859 Norway White Wife (1886)
  • Kari Kind Pete Walcott, Richland, North Dakota Mar 1859 Norway White Wife (1883)
  • Carrie Johnson Edward Saint James, Watonwan, Minnesota Mar 1859 Norway White Wife (1884)
  • Carrie Johnson Nels Wykeham, Todd, Minnesota Mar 1859 Norway White Wife (1883)

Kari Kind isn't a good candidated based on the 1910 census. It indicates her father is Mickel O Graff 82

Thank you, anyway. "My" Kari's father was Nils. His last name is not given in the church-books.

Hei Anne Brit,
her father is mentioned in the baptism record, difficult to read all the information and his last name, Niels Michelsen? It was her 1. leigemaal (1. child born out of wedloc) #32

Not important, but Funnesdal that was mentioned abowe is in Lier parish in Buskerud.

Hei igjen, Kåre.
Funnesdal in Lier is quite some distance from Røn in Vestre Slidre. But it's ok to have that bit of information settled.

It was good of you to decipher the Michelsen-name. When Kari's confirmation took place in 1874, he is just mentioned as Nils Pladsen ("the place"), so that is not much to go on. Kari's brother (Lars, born in 1864), was Barbro's second birth out of wedlock. When she married Syver Knudsen, she had six children by him - the oldest one was my great-grandfather Knut. His oldest daughter was my maternal grandmother Barbro - she was named after her grandmother.
Hilsen Anne Brit

Hi All,

Thanks so much Lynda and Knudson Family and Kaare for tremendous work ethic!

59 names would be a lot of looking but 4 is not so bad...

Probably this is she in Minnesota Death Index:

KALLEVIG, MRS CRRIE
Date of Birth: na
Place of Birth: na
Mother Maiden Name: na
certid# 1935-MN-006712
Date of Death: 12 Dec 1935
County of Death: KANDIYOHI

Also looked up obituary for Marie/Mary Gustafson, Grand Forks Herald, Tuesday 30 Nov 1943, page 5, col 3; says she was born 8 Aug 1877, came to US in 1900, survived by husband at home and brother Knute Severson in Norway. Also in G.F. Herald, Friday 3 Dec 1943, page 5, col 3 pallbearers listed as P.J Holmberg, A.F. Patrick, Gust Peterson, John Swanson, C. Barlow, Erhart Johnson. Are any of the pallbearer names familiar?

A.F. Patrick is a possible typo as Cora Syverson, Mrs. Arnold Petrich was a granddaughter of Thore Syverson and she lived in Grand Forks.

Seeing Kari's baptism record makes me wonder, since she was older perhaps she was "faddere" on the baptisms of some of her younger siblings or cousins??? What about obituaries in Norway for her younger siblings and her grandparents, parents, aunts & uncles in which her whereabouts might be listed?

Hilsen,
Jackie M.

Hei,
looking better into it I now think it could be Niels Pladsen.

Could be many Pladsen, perhaps he even wasn´t from Slidre, he was from a sub farm under ?
