I am trying to figure out some information on the son of Baard Anderson. Baard was born in Norway January 8, 1840 the son of Anders Johnsen Kluken and Beret Bardsdtr. Before he came to America he had a son with a woman and the sons name was Seffanias or Steffen (not sure). I don't know the mother's name, but would like to find that out as well as Steffen's birithdate, place, etc. Baard came to America in 1869 and Steffen came with him I believe. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is probably Baard and his family in the 1870 US Census, this would be very shortly after he came to America. No sign of any Steffen in this family.

Name: Baard Anderson
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1842
Age in 1870: 28
Birthplace: Norway
Home in 1870: West Union, Todd, Minnesota
Race: White
Gender: Male
Value of real estate: View image
Post Office: Osakes
Household Members: Name Age
Baard Anderson 28
Martha Anderson 26
Charles Anderson 8
Andrew Anderson 3
Ole Anderson 7/12

from ancestry.com

The census form indicates that Charles and Andrew were born in Norway and Ole in the US.

Yep that would be them! I found Baard, Martha, Sephanias, and Anders in a passenger list from 1869.

Just a small correction, Baard Andersen was born Jan 8 1841, and baptized March 14, see #16.
Baards uægte child was Zephanias born April 6 1862. His mother was Beret Sivertsdatter, see #34
Sefanias was a foster child with Baard and his parents at Kluken in 1865
Since Beret Sivertsdatter was on Kluken when Zehanias was born, it is very likely that she is the Bereth Sivertsdatter in 1865

Baard and his wife Martha Olsdatter moved out from Verdal April 24 1869 with two children, one was Baards Sephanias and the other their son Anders, see #25-28
Anders was born March 10 1867, see #53
Baard and Martha were married Nov 15 1866, see #32 Matha was born in 1843 and her father was Ole Olsen Kleppen.
Martha and her parents and siblings in 1865

Does uaegte mean illegitimate? The only reason I have Baard as being born in 1840 is because his tombstone says that here in America. From the 1870 census in America is it likely that Zephanias (Sephanias) was changed to Charles since the Charles listed there would be the same age as Sephanias?

I guess the only other thing I'm wondering about Sephanias is who he married in America. I'm almost positive that he married my great-great grandfather's sister, but that would have been in America. Her name was Anna Pederson. She later married O S Restan, so Sephanias probably died...

The Baard we are talking about here married in 1866 and left Norway in 1869, how could he be the father of a child born 1874 in Nordland?

Try locating Charles Declaration of Intention papers to see if he's Zephanias

Lyndal40 is saying that Sephanius father two other children, but he couldn't have done that since he was born in 1862 and left for America in 1869 with family.

Searching under Stephanius Baardson on ancestry.com one of the records that comes up is the one I posted above. The name is not exactly the same but I posted it because it is so similar to the one TLarson is looking for. I have since searched for this record in Digitalarkievet and found it for Bjørnskinn in Dverberg record. Look at. #16.

TLarsen is correct I was looking for the son not the father. It may very well not be the son but the name is quite unusual.

TLarsen would you mind sharing more information on the passenger list, such as port of entry, ship, etc. I have not been able to locate that record..

I wonder if this is your O. S. Restan. If so when he married Anna her name was Anderson as might be expected if she had first been married to Charles Anderson.

Name: O S Restan
Age: 57
Gender: Male
Spouse: Anna Anderson
Marriage Date: 24 Sep 1919
Marriage County: Roberts
County of Residence: Roberts
Post Office: Sisseton
