I have had some much appreciated help identifying this name over here and would very much appreciate a little more guidance if possible.
Basically I am trying to prioritise which parish registers to search first on the Digital Archive and started looking in Oslo Domkirke and also GRØNLAND but am hoping someone can confirm that this is near where Rødfyldgaden was?
Of course, the answer for that address is probably greatly dependent upon what time period you are researching. My recommendation would be: Domkirken (Vor Frelsers) menighet i Oslo by. Omfattet Trefoldighets menighet til 1858 og Jakobs menighet til 1875. [Cathedral (Our Savior's) parish in Oslo city. Included Trinity parish until 1858 and Jacob's parish until 1875.]
Rødfyldgaden belonged to Domkirken (Vår Frelsers menighet) Since the street no longer exist you will not find it with the 1881 map. If you choose "Brugata x Vognmannsgata (Veikryss) Oslo" in that map you will hit the area where Rødfyldgaden was. If you choose Kart and then "Kart over Kristiania med menighets-grenser 1911" at http://www.byarkivet.oslo.kommune.no you can actually see the street, if you manage to zoom in until it is big enough. (The parish border between Vår Frelser and Grønland parish is given with a green line through the street)
Wow - thank you so much. Just what I needed to know to start searching. (I will be looking at the 1881 time period). By the way the 1911 map of Kristiana is beautiful - do you know if hard-copies of this (and possibly other early Norwegian maps) can be bought online?
I don't know if the maps can be bought as "hardcopies" online. You definetly can copy and print out the copies, question is how can you get it zoomed in to the readable version. Try them out, many Maps = kart on the webside I gave you.
