I don't know much; his birth is in June 1850; I know nothing more other than he has a Danish origin! |

Thank you! I have used the
http://www.emiarch.dk/search.php3?l=en
search engine before, with no results
however, you have re-brought it to my attention and I can use the iGoogle translation service to help with professions
the Jens Jensen listed is not the correct age however |

I have tried every combination I can think of, and included the Danish words for grocer and butcher, but nothing comes up that has any plausible match to Jervis, Jeris, or Jens Jensen, who arrived in Chicago in 1878 and was born about 1850 in Denmark.
Thanks for the help, however. Perhaps because he had a Danish name, he was "passing" as a Dane, but really from South Sweden as I originally thought, because of family lore (the "appropriate" census' say Denmark). |

Thank you Mr. Peder, this looks very good!
I appreciate your considerate help sincerely.
After giving consideration to a autonomous gene, non-sex based inheritance related to Relative Finder at 23andme, I am drawn back to research the originators of the/my mtDNA and Y-DNA in America; Jens is my Y-DNA source and Mathia is my my mtDNA source.
Actually, my highest match in Relative Finder at 23andme is a woman from Wisconsin who claims to be 100% Norwegian!
Using what you provide, perhaps I can locate information about the Dane's emigration to Chicago.
Thanks again! |

Well, well...I hope this info is my info! Jens is a popular name! Jens Jensen son of Jens Jensen, and son of a Jensdatter too!
Well, I was "adopted" by a stepfather which involved a name change, but was very very happy to be back to "using" JENSEN, when I was 21; gee, it looks like it could be or was in my "blood" or rather my GENES!
Interesting, Karen is my full sister's middle name, now I can guess where it comes from! |

I contacted Jackie who is associated with the TRUEMAN "line" and the rootsweb/ancestry.com entry, where apparently you found the above information. I guess we will find out what she has to say!
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=jmtrueman&id=I4680
I was hoping to raise my ancestry.com subscription to the $29.99 one for a month, from the 3 month US trial I have, but it looks like they have only annual subscriptions that are paid quarterly, if I am not mistaken.
Their phone line ends at 6 pm EST, which is only 3 pm in Seattle, so maybe I will try calling Friday; I was too late today! |

Mark. To search in the Danish archives one must use the letters æ-ø-å.
On this page you can register by logging in and enter the arcives for Sjælland.
On this Danish side we can read that Asminderod who peviously was a small village which today is written Asminderød is included in Fredensborg municipality located on Denmarks largest island Sjælland
Good luck.

Well thanks for ALL the interest. Finding information for Jens (Jervis) Jensen has seemed to have reached a dead end and maybe I should put the pursuit to rest for awhile.
My upgrade at Ancestry.com to "World" didn't provide any tangible benefits in the search for this Jensen.
However at 23andme I have a small DNA match to a Wisconsin woman who claims to be all Norwegian, though we have yet to identify specific common ancestors.
Interestingly, 2 individuals actually "in" Norway are listed as cousins in the Relative Finder feature at 23andme ! -Mark
