Kristine Pedersen,(born in Norway 1868 )did have daughter Signe Kaspara born 1893 in Larvik, the father was Carl Anton Andersen, sailor. Parents not married.
Signe Kaspara goes to Amerika in 1901,8 years old. In the passenger list for the ship Hekla it is noted that she is going to Mr.Ludvig Svensen in Pennsylvania, and mother..

There are reasons to belive that her mother Kristine married Mr.Svensen, because when Signe is getting married she notes her mothers name as Kristine Svenson---
My big problem is that I do not find any trace of Kristine or Ludvig-- the only thing I can find is when Signe is born--in churchbook for Larvik.

Anyone out there who can help?

From the emigration record I see Henry Pedersen 8 years next to Signe Kaspara
The baptismal record for Signe Kaspara, see #108 I find one of the witnesses "Snedker August Pedersen" and in the baptismal record for Henry Pedersen, see #110 the father is August Pedersen Snedker living in Nedre Bøgeligate 10.
Signe Kasparas mother Kristine Pedersen was also living in Nedre Bøgeligt 10 in 1893 and Eleonore Pedersen who informed about the "leiermål" and was one of the witnesses was living in nedre Bøgeligate and was born in Sweden.
Most likely Kristine and August were siblings and they could have been born in Sweden.

Thank you so much- I did have a look at churchbook for Henrys christening, mother Pauline Larsen and father August was married june 22 1893,but here the name of Pauline is Karoline Olsen??-In this record it says that August is born in Arlanda,Vermeland april 13 1865 and that he had his confirmation in Fredrikstad oct 5 1879- -I did not find that, but I will check out swedish "husførhør " and see what I can come up with.
However there is stil the question on when Kristine left Norway and went to Amerika,I do guess it had to be before 1900., because in The census for Hedrum in Vestfold in 1900 her daughter Signe Kaspara is "in catering" at the place Gulserød.
So I am still trying to find Kristine and Ludvig in Amerika-- so I have to do add that Signe got married to another norwegian in Amerika,Harold Christopher Halvorsen born april 21 1887
in Skoger. They got married dec 14 1914 in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania-

This is likely Signe now married but still living in Philadelphia from the 1920 US Census,

Name: Signe Halverson
Home in 1920: Philadelphia Ward 48, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Age: 27 years
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1893
Birthplace: Norway
Relation to Head of House: Wife
Spouse's Name: Harold
Father's Birth Place: Norway
Mother's Birth Place: Norway
Marital Status: Married
Race: White
Sex: Female
Year of Immigration: 1900
Able to read: Yes
Able to Write: Yes
Image: 408
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Harold Halverson 34
Signe Halverson 27
Clara Halverson 2 9/12
Harrold Halverson 11/12

What is a puzzle is the great difficulty in finding Ludvig and Kristine Svendsen. They must be in Philadelphia in this time frame.

That is all correct, thank you lyndal-and I do belive that Kristine died before 1914-Signe get her papers for marriage and sign as Signe Grenager., dec 15 1914 issued by Orphan Court of Philadelphia County .She states name of parents Anton Andersen and Christine. She gives mothers name as Kristine Svenson. What Signe told family is that Kristine died,"father" (she must have ment Mr.Svenson),remarried, then he dies and stephmother marry Anton Grenager. All very confusing. And Karl Anton Andersen ,guess Kristine never married him-
And in the ship manifest for Hekla 1901 there is a Caroline Hansen going to Anton Grenager in Philadelphia--

Eichbache, marriage for parents of Henry is from Larvik 1893-married jun.22; August Persson(pedersen) snedker og Karoline Olsen, han bosatt N.Bøgelig.10

I did mention earlier that August had his confirmation in Fredrikstad 1879-but it says Fredrikshald not Fredrikstad-that means it was in Halden- and I looked it up : his parents was :Aron Persson and Lisa Andersdatter.
Halden 1869-1884 page 454 and number 22-
No trace of Kristine---if she was born 1868 and are sister of August-she would have her confirmation in 1883-84-but I do not find anything-

I am trying to connect Kristine and August ,to find out if they were siblings, but I do guess I will have to go check the Swedish Husførhørsbøkene to find out-

So far we do know that Signe went to Amerika on ship Hekla in 1901 and that she was travelling with:
Caroline Hansen, going to Anton Grenager in Philadelphia
Margit Halvorsen going to Portland
Anna Elg. going to Laura Nilsd. in New York
Anna Sophie Andersen going to Boston
Magna M Borgersen going to Boston and
Henry Pedersen .
Signe and Henry are going to Mr. Ludvig Svendsen 132 Carp.str. in Philadelphia-and to mother it says-

So we do know that Kristine left for Amerika before 1900-or early same year-because daughter Signe Kaspara is living at Gulserød in Hedrum in 1900-
Henry is a fosterchild in Brunlanes in 1900
We do know that Signe got married in USA to Halvord Halvorsen from Skoger in 1914
Signe signed her marriage papers with Signe Grenager-and stated her mothers name as Kristine Svenson,
So we do know alot about Signe - and almost nothing about her mother Kristine-- her father Carl Anton Andersen and Mr.Ludvig Svenson and Anton Grenager-
This is a big puzzle, lots of names involved, and places- and connections to be made-

and I am grateful for all the help I get

In Signe Kasparas baptismal record her father is recorded as a widower and sailor.
In the 1865 census one Karl Anton is found in Tjølling, he was a sailor and born in Sandeherred.
His baptismal record is #92

There is not a lot to be found when we search for these people but things do turn up as we continue looking. I found this on a Anton M Grenager. It is a two page document with very little useful informaion. It was executed on June 16, 1896. So we know he was in the US then. His address is given as 953 South Front Street, Philadelphia, PA. A second document immediately following the first in the search file is probably the first application for naturalization as it was executed on January 26, 1891. He is listed as a native of Norway.

Name: Anton M Grenager
State: Pennsylvania
Court Type: District Court
Court Location: Eastern District, Pennsylvania
Naturalization Record Type: Petition for Naturalization
Roll Description: (Roll 050) Petition Nos. 3261-3835
Archive: National Archives, Washington, D.C.
Collection Title: Naturalization Petitions for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, 1795-1930

I wonder if this family found in the 1900 US Census fits. The spelling is off, but that might be why we have had such great difficulty finding them. But this would mean that an Anton Grenager married Kristine. Does that make any sense.
