My father had a cousin, Martin Holm (b. 1883) who was married to a Norwegian lady, Aasta. They lived in New York C and in Stamford CT. For a while they were caretakers of the country residence of some NYC big shot. I do not know his name, but the name of the estate was Skerryvore. Among other assets Aasta and Martin owned some shares in the Swedish American Line, part of which were bequeathed to me. I met A and M both in America and in Sweden. - I believe that Aasta came from Mandal. It would be nice to find any relatives of hers, in Norway (jeg snakker norsk "til husbehov") or in America.

Census-1930 for Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut shows this:

Listed as married, but could Sigfrid be her son or daughter?

Widowed man Marti Holm (83), dead: 22 Nov 1966, Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut.

From Ancestry.com and the Boston passenger list we find.

Name: Nasta Magdalena Christopher
Arrival Date: Aug 1902
Age: 18 Years
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1884
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Liverpool, England
Ship Name: Ultonia
Port of Arrival: Boston, Massachusetts
Friend's Name: Jacob Nielsen
Last Residence: Norway

While the transcriber wrote her name as Nasta and as a male a look at the orginal passenger manifest clearly shows the name to be Aasta. Also noted is her destination is to visit her cousin Jacob Nielsen at 198 Chelsa street east, Boston.

Listed directly below her is Oktavia Jorgine Anreassen. Same destination, listing Jacob Nielsen as a friend.

I think i´ts the 1902 and -07 emigrant Aasta Magdalene Christophersen from Mandal.

She was born Mai. 7. 1884.
If it´s her, the parents married in Mandal July 7. 1870 so we can assume she had siblings.

Parents in 1875 census
It show 4 siblings of Aasta, the two eldest half-siblings, born out of wedlock. LDS IGI lists a brother Robert born 1876

Hi.
Do you know if Aasta you are looking for had any siblings?

From the 1875 census for Mandal we read she had a brother Christoffer Mikkelborg Christoffersen born Dec. 29.1870.
He emigrated to America 1887, see right page #9

Dest Minnesota on SS Norge (via Newcastle England), see here

Aastas half sister Ragna Benedicte was born Sept 3 1863, mother Bendicte Gurine Mønnich and the father seaman Rasmus Bertilsen, see #172
and her half brother Peder Sigvard was born Dec 11 1867, mother Bendicte Gurine Mønich and the father Thor Stefanson Vesterlund, see #21
Christoffer Mikkelborgs baptismal record is #105
Robert Johans baptismal record is at the bottom of this page he was born Febr 19 and bapticed at home by the parish minister Febr 28. It is noted that he died before this could be confirmed in church. How could he then be recorded as living in the 1875 census? - this is a mystery to me!
