The bygdebok for Finsland refers to a person Gisle Torson Høgholdt during the chapter on Manflå. Later in that same chapter it refers to the couple Tore og Guron owning many farms, Included in the list is Høghold (Høielt). I would like to know where that farm is. I would like to read about it but am not able to determine where it is so that I can find a bygdebok that will give its history. Can anyone point me in the right drection. Finsland is in Vest-Agder. I have found four addresses for Høghold using Kart 1881 but none of these seem likely.

From O. Rygh: Norwegian Farm Names we find that Manflaa is in Finsland parish, Finsland municipality and Lister og Mandals amt (= Vest-Agder)
No Høgholdt is listed but Høielt is listed in Birkenes parish, Birkenes municipality and Nedenes amt (= Aust-Agder)
I believe that this farm in the 1865 census was called Høigilt, no longer a farm, but name found in Lillesand. Depending on circumstances, Tore and Guron could very well own a farm in the nearby county.
Do you know this slektstavle?
Gisle Thorson Høgholdt is in the lower part of page 42.

Thank you Einar,

Yes, I was aware of the Langeland website and have used it many times. It was what first led me to Finsland bydebok. I do have access to the Birkenes bygdebok and will now try and find the farm under Høgholdt or Høielt.

Thank you Hararld,

If your wife's g-grandmother traces her family back to Tore Gunderson Manflå and Guru Manflå perhaps we are related. I was tracing Oluf Giselessen Vatne of Vatne Store, Vegusdal, Aust-Agder when I finally arrived in Finsland, Vest-Agder.

Taking a quick look at your website and looking the Ascendants for Anne Sofie Høygilt there does not seem to be a connection that looks familiar to me.

However, when I type into your search box a farm name common in my ancestors, that of Dovland I see the familar family names of Knud Dovland, Osmund Skeeros and Kiddel Frøysa. Probably not surprising when you go that far back in time.
