Would like to know when Johan Fredrick Vebenstad left for America (ship and who with) He was born Feb 18, 1860, parents Anders Nielsen and Guri Fredriksdatter in Kvernes, county More og Romsdal. I'm showing arrived in 1879 or 1880 according to U.S. census. I can't find him on any passenger lists.

Judi - Which Norwegian ports have you already checked for his possible emigration?
What name combinations did you search for?

Did he appear in the parish 'Utflyttede ' listings for Kvernes?

Hi,
Thank you for the information, that is him in the 1900 census for the US in Wi. I have traced him to the 1865 census in Kvernes in More og Romsdal with his paents. He was born Feb 18, 1860. He was married in Minnespolis in 1885 to Sara Halvorsen (Gunnelson, Floistad she was born in 1858 in Evje) In different US census it says he came over in 1880 or 1879. I checked leaving Norway using the names Andersen (father Anders Nilsen) Vebenstad and Webenstad. I also posted this a year ago on gen forum. No one could find him leaving. I would like to know who in his family came to the US. I must admit I have a hard time with the old records but I've been looking for a long time and I'm persistant.
Thanks again, Judi

On the west coast where Møre and Romsdal is located I have searched in the emigrant list´s from Bergen, Ålesund and Trondheim.

Also schecked Oslo.
Still some ports to look into and I might have overlooked him.

I used Johan Andersen and Johan Vebenstad, used few letters as I have seen names spelled in the most incredible ways, used start with or contain, birthplace, in several variations without any luck.

Many emigrants were not registered.

Johan Fredriks baptismal record is #31.
He was confirmed in 1875, see #6.
No further hits in Kvernes.

Hi,
I try to bring up as many Vebenstad emigrations as possible.
Perhaps someone out there who reads this page has the answere.

1875, Johan Frederiks sister Anna Marie Andersdr. b. Oct. 6. 1855 moved south-west in Norway to Haugesund town, see right page #29
Not sure what the parantheses framing her name means and the reason for her travel.

1876, a neighbor to Johannes, Knud Olaus Olsen Vebenstad born 1857 emigrated to USA, cant find him in the shipslists either, dest unknown, see right page #20 (parents Ole Svendsen and Doreth Jøstensdr.)

Kristiansund was the nearest port, the registration there did not start before 1882.

1881 Knud Olai´s brother John Olsen Vebenstad b. Mai. 5. 1860 emigrated, dest unkown.

1904 Feb. 22. Dep port Trondheim;
Evert (Edvard) Vebenstad born 1878 in Kvernes, stoneworker, dest Scandinavien Wisconsin, ship Christiania, ticket paid for in USA.

1904 Mai 2. Dep port Trondheim;
Knud Vebenstad born 1884 in Kvernes, Fisherman, dest. Duluth Minn, ship Christiania, ticket paid for in Trondheim.

Vebenstad (5 farms) are located to Averøy and the history of the fams and the people who lived there shall be mentioned in Averøy Bygdebooks B.4 Volume 4 in Nedre Bådalen (Lower Båvalley).

In this photo, right side of it, you see the inner part of the fjord (Nekkstad Fjord) with an island (Kalv-øya /Calf-island).
To the right on the mainland by the "white" road you´ll see several houses.

That is where Vebenstad is located.

Kaarto, Thank you for the information. There is a Anna and Peter Mortenson in the cemetary in Scandinavia, Wi. They are both from Norway. She was born in 1846 and they were married in Norway in 1876. I think that is John Fredricks Vebenstad oldest sister. But I can't find them on passenger lists either. Thanks again, Judi

the parenthesis is most likely put there along with the mark to the right of the record, which says "Ikke afreist" = not departed.
