Hi Kåre I had a talk today with my Aunt She said her father came from Nordland. She said he was a fisherman as well as his father. She said his mom worked on a farm.I thnk he was born in 1885. but that's all she could remember . She remembered that my grandmother sent my uncle to live in Norway when he was just a baby, and her dad put my uncles name on the farm deed .Because one day they wanted to build on the farm and family came here to the U.S. to have him sign papers for them to do it because he was part owner. My Uncle's name is William Williamsen is there a way to find out if my grandparents owned the farm and what farm was it they owned She also told me that my grandmother was one of 11 children her mother had. thank you all for all your help. Being here in the U.S. and not knowning much about your family is very heard and the work you do Means so much for all of us who don;t know much about our families over there. You all do a great job Thank you so Much |

Maybe the baptismal record for Peder Ludvig Kristian would be of interest, it is #63. His mothers full name was Karoline Emilie Eliasdatter and she was living at Sandvik (Aakvik). The sister Dorthea Emilie was also born out of wedlock May 22 1888, see #33 her father was (married man?) shoemaker Peder Eilert Olsen.

Karoline Emilie Eliasdatter was born Aug 24 1868 and baptized at home, this was confirmed in church Oct 18 1868, see #44. Her parents were Elias Mekal Hansen and Elen Dorthea Pedersdatter at the Sandvik under Aakvig farm. Elias and Elen had a son Petter Christian on March 26 1856, see #16.

Hi Vivian, Herøy is in Nordland.
Peder Jensen I found was sure a fisherman, most of the men living on the islands in northern Norway were. His grandfather Elias was a lease holder and fisherman on Sandvik.
Most of the land on these islands were owned by "Væreiere" also called "Nessekonge" , a kind of squire and merchant which owned the land and decided the price of the fish. The farms were small and tenants were required to work a certain number of days on the estate owners farm. It you had any debt to the squire you were no allowed to by any goods from others.
Off the record. How life could be on these islands. My grandfather Aksel born 1897 lived on the neighbor island named Dønna (bridge connection now). One day he refused to comply with orders, after a few hours the squire came riding on a white horse and asked if Aksel Nordvoll had not heard the bell ringing. Yes, Grandpa replied, but it was more important for him to get the dry hay into the barn. He could help if he got help in return with the hay first. The squire turned his horse and rode back. Grandpa who was fearless and just never heard anything about this incident later.
I have not found migration records for Værøy after 1900. No wonder that many young peole emigrated form these islands even the law was about to be changed so crofters could by the farm they lived on.

William Williamsen came to Norway shortly after 1910? He settled down in Konsmo and takes over Koveland? The family lived on Koveland, Nordre Undal /Nord Audnedal in 1900, temporary recidence was Konsmo.
I looked into the confirmation records for Konsmo, ended 1931, could not find William. On most pages there were confirmations that were born in the US, many from Brooklyn.
